i too attended csu hayward now csu eastbay. i was in a communication law with mr curry. he was the tallest black man in class and i the shortest. we were the only black people in the class. at that time i did not know he was a comic. professor mccoy was the instructor. or i as i called him surreal mccoy...

Mark is sounding forgetful in some parts ,,, I worked at Pay N save at East Mont Mall around 1984,85 ( thats where Mark also worked before he got transfered to the Berkeley store ,,,, So, after work on Halloween ..we all said " lets go out to Shananigans in jack London square" ,,it was Near Downtown Oakland ,,, we didn't even know it was a " best Halloween costume " prize for the night,,we just heard it was a Halloween event there ,,,, Also, it wasn't a comedy competition, it was only a fun Halloween event gathering, and you had to have on some kind of costume to get in --(it was only an after work spare of the moment decision so none of us prepared, bought or had legit costumes) so we threw on anything, old cowboy hat ; bought a toy gun with a holsters from a liquor store , etc , just to get in. Mark put masking tape around a pair of big eye glasses with his regular clothes on and thats all he needed to " act like a goofy nerd " ( steve Erkle before his time) ,, Then they called each person to the stage one at a time for the crowd to look at and applaud if they liked your outfit or thought it was the best or good ,,,,, ( I didn't go up becuz I was just a black cheap bootleg looking cowboy and I knew I wouldn't win ,,and I actually thought Mark wouldn't win either with only " goofy glasses on compared to some people up there with outstanding "Robot, or big bird or some costumes that looked like they put $1,000.00 into ) So Mark couldnt just stand there and do nothing like all the rest of those that came to the stage becuz he didn't have on an outstanding winnable custome ,,-- so, mark got on the mic and started acting like a " Nerd " - talking goofy , telling jokes like a 4 eyed nerd and acting stupid,, and talking about people in the crowd --the crowd started laughing !!!!! ( thats why when Mark just said he "dressed as a pimp " i disagreed listening to that part in this interview , becuz i knew for sure it was a " nerd" ,,,,,,then he remembered and changed his words to , " No i was a nerd " " ( listen at 18:00 ) ,,,, I was there!! ,,and it wasnt at the " Lucky Lions " --- Lucky Lions was near the Oakland Air port on Hegenburger Ave --- it was at a place called "Shananigans" in Jack London Square ,,, he won that night and really wanted to do comedy after that ,,we went back to work the following monday and , he eventually got transfered to the berkley store as manager ,, then a few years later he entered the " Bay Area Comedy Competition " kicked off by Anthony Spires and Donald Lacy, and staff,,, it was called at the time " Full Circle Theater Collective " ,the name changed later to " Full Circle Entertainment" when it went strickly putting on the Bay Area comedy competitions .... ( i did a few shows with them as music designer and actor in theater before the comedy came,,,, )!--then they went totally comedy and a guy named Lewis Diks won the first year in the competition and Mark Curry won the second year,,,,,i got in it the 3rd year but i didnt advance to the final rounds,,,, , Mark won and went on to host Amature night at the Appolo becuz Anthony Spires ( great business mind) , had connections with them to promote the winners of his show ( the Bay area black Comedy Competition - by Full Circle Entertainment's Anthony Spires ) , Mark stuck with standup comedy doing other shows , etc , as he said ,,and things eventually moved him on to LA ..to "Hanging with Mr. Cooper ",,,,,,next i heard he had an unfortunate accident of some bad body fire burns of some sort from some kinds house equipment explosion or something that hospitalized him and nearly killed him --- hes been off the TV and big picture scene and quiet until that racist incident at the hotel about a year ago and now visual again since Katt mentioned him on the Shannon Show . Mark was the funniest co-worker I think I have ever had a 9 to 5 job with . He made going to work enjoyable and made the time fly to get off work.... Blessing and Love to Mark Curry and his family !!
