My eldest was in the skateboard scene in SoCal. At 52 he can still rock a skateboard...he also snowboards & has added surfing to his extreme sport hobbies. He is a free spirit. His 1st skateboard was Mom's hand-me-down board with roller skate wheels screwed to the bottom; when he was 4.

You totally nailed the “Southern California skater dude vibes” and the geography! I grew up in Oceanside CA in the late 90s/early 2000’s and you painted the picture perfectly. I’ve even been to one of the houses in Fallbrook owned by a pro skater with a HUGE skate ramp. This is one of my favorite stories you’ve done, because it took me right back to my youth. I loved me a cute talented skater boy back then 😂 I used to go to the skate parks, hang around the streets with the skater boys from my school, and of course I wore all the “I’m a super cool skater chick” clothes. I rode my longboard alllll around these towns that you mentioned. Thanks for this story Sara!

I met Gator at a demo. He got mad at me because I could ollie higher than him on flat ground. He was handing out stickers to kids but proceeded to slap away kids hands when they reached out to accept the stickers. Absolutely the worst pro skater encounter I’ve ever had
