Mark, I know you are no longer with us in human form but I want to thank you for all you’ve shared in this talk. I was sober many years and got really sick in self centered fear / anger. It began long before Covid but once Covid happened, I lost it. I remember hearing in the rooms that it’s so much harder getting sober the second time and that has certainly been my experience. It’s taken me two years to put together more than 30 days. I am aware of my “self manifested in various ways” and am working with my sponsor on all my many fears, and the unmanageability of my life. Two of my glaring character defects are arrogance/entitlement … these are the two that took me out, among others. You have said tons of things in this talk that has stirred up a deeper understanding of my recovery. Specifically when you talk about God and agnosticism. Just like recovery is a program of ACTION so is my relationship with God. I do not live my life as though I believe in God but I say I believe … my actions show the contrary. I also connected with what you said about the many identities we have, aka, the committee. I did some writing while listening to you and I am just brutal with myself … absolutely abusive. I have a lot to talk to my sponsor about after listening to you tonight. Thank you so much. Make sure God gets my prayers that I’m sending ❤️

The more we rise up out of our ego, up into our spirit and turn and face ourselves with brutal honesty and accept ourselves, the better we feel. When we do something that makes us feel bad, that is an indicator to us to stop doing that thing that makes us feel bad. When we stop doing shit that makes us feel bad about ourselves, we stop disliking ourselves, then it becomes easier for us to like ourselves, and forgive ourselves for not being perfect, accept ourselves as the imperfect being that we are. Now we can be our own best friend and we begin to like life coz everywhere we go, there we are, and there is also our best friend. And becoz we are happy everywhere we go, we begin to make friends outside ourselves as well...

I love Mark. No matter how many times I listen to this, both his message and his delivery of it can only be described as prolific. I want what he had, and quite honestly, until I listened to his commitment and unwavering discipline with steps 10 and 11, I didn't realize how critical it was to my emotional sobriety and how much it contributed to why I felt that I was slowly losing my mind the longer sobriety I had. And he's hilarious. I especially love his talk about the donkeys and his conversation with God before he went to the nuthouse. 😂

Is addiction worth living for? It's a very serious question that applies to everyone, even the blissfully unaware. Every bite of food, every orgasm, hit of crack, sip of coffee, back itch, shot of heroin or liquor, drag off a cigarette, video game and movie experience, all elations from learning or achieving, it all works the same.

Man I wish I had him for my first sponsor. Unfortunately my first few sponsors during the first few years of going to meetings. My first few sponsors would tell me daily please don't drink alcohol today BUT if you do make sure you tell me and the group. Anyway after getting the right sponsor after the second year of attending AA drinking David W. ten years younger than me decided that I'd stop drinking or stop attending. his home group AA meetings. I listened especially after knowing he was serious. Hopefully though beginners won't let this speaker scare them to death before hearing the message. He's not a professional medical advisor just a drunk with his personal experience story.
