That's the sort of thing I can envy, and he should never change. It's nice to know he's done well, still the occasional project, still the witty interviews. One funny story is how he has to prepare recent Star Wars fans (too young to realize when the original trilogy had been filmed) to the fact that he had aged since late 70's/early 80's.

takes a real diverse, brilliant, talented, generous, accessible & well-rounded actor, talent and performer, such as Mark H., to be not only in silver screen but also live on stage!! .... Annie Potts says it best... anybody that can survive that blast of a fame, is a real measure of a man, somebody who can come out of that and have their feet on the ground and raise 3 kids and be married to the same woman for 25 years in hollywood.. deserves a major applause!! xD

annabelle1898 mark Hamill really was and still is an extraordinary actor, and very talented as well, didnt know he spent several years in broadway, and that he even played the role of amadeus in theatre, i loved the film amadeus when it came out, and he was that close to getting the role which won several oscars!! well star wars was his time of fame, but its interesting to see also how his career was quite differen to harrison ford who obviously ended up a huge star in hollywood, and mark hamill didnt really make it there after star wars; clearly he had the talent, but it just didnt happend for him

+annabelle1898 Celebrities often seem like they have the world at their feet. Money, fame, talent and beauty are things many of us wish for, but becoming an international star also comes with its downsides. Almost every celebrity has struggled with the pressures of fame at some point. However, a great number have found life in the spotlight far too stressful and eventually ruined their careers through alcohol and drug abuse or erratic behaviour. What you quoted from Annie Potts (like you say) "said it best." "Regrets, I've had a few But then again, too few to mention I did what I had to do and saw it through without exemption I planned each charted course, each careful step along the byway And more, much more than this, I did it my way." "For what is a man, what has he got? If not himself, then he has naught To say the things he truly feels and not the words of one who kneels The record shows I took the blows and did it my way." I have always loved him. He is the only star who has never tumbled off the pedestal because he is always true to himself and honest and loves his wife without cheating on her. He is like a rare gem, a man who is not married min. 3x and who has not cheated his wife and slept around with tons of women. I have a great and undiminishing respect for him, as a man with high morals and true love for his wife. Apart from all that I think he is super talented, I am just so sorry that directors did not use his talent more and would not give him many stellar roles like they did to Harrison Ford.

25:52 Does Lucas truly not understand either his actors nor his own script enough to get that Mark was simply playing the role he was given correctly? He played the whiny self centered teenager perfectly despite his age in A New Hope ("But I wanted to go to Tosche Station to pick up some power converters..."). In Empire, while still quite the brash young man, Luke has been through the wringer of a year at war. He's nowhere near the fully realized adult male Jedi who is at peace with himself that he would perfectly portray in Return Of The Jedi but he's not the wet behind the ears, whiny little brat that he was in A New Hope either. To me it's obvious he played the role as he, correctly, saw it.

Poor man! Famous only for one role. Two for other people who can remember one great animated villain. But honnestly, I saw him on some others roles and he was very good even if the movies where he was weren't always great. For me, he is not just Luke Skywalker or the Joker, he is an actor with talent. I just hope he will have the chance to play other roles again even if he has to continue to be Luke Skywalker for a time.
@Sirrom510 жыл бұрын
He had an accident between a new hope and Empire Strike Back which changed dramatically his facial features. This circumstance changed the course of his life.... in better in my opinion because many stars have only money but no dignity. Yes it is a very talented actor but hollywood prefers stars to talents.... because of commercial reasons (and appearance is more important than talent. that's holliwood's shit).
@nagudelomusic10 жыл бұрын
Well, been immortalized by his portrayal of Luke Skywalker... is really distant to the concept of being a "poor man". He's quite respected and privileged because of that for his entire lifetime. Most of the actors in tv, theater and cinema struggle their entire career to achieve 1% of Mark Hamill's recognition.
@Alice0s10 жыл бұрын
Nicolas Agudelo - DJ / Electronic Producer It's not a good thing for an actor to be remembered for only one role and not for the rest of his carreer. It's living in the shadow of a character he performed and people compare him to that character instead of trying to know his actor carreer . And that's what is sad for him: people only see him as Luke Skywalker and not Mark Hamill the actor. An actor respected and priliviged for only one role is often treated that way at the cost of his identity. And that's what happened to Mark Hamill who laugh about it but yet is still prisonner of Luke Skywalker's character. That's why I used the words poor man.

"Mark could finally put Luke Skywalker aside". Not so fast, we have the new trilogy here!
@cisio641238 жыл бұрын
Exactly what I was thinking. This was clearly made before definite plans for the sequel trilogy were announced. It also is not quite accurate as Mark has said that he already knew there was a possibility that he could be playing Luke again in the sequel trilogy. George Lucas already had in mind three sets of trilogy's even while filming the first film Star Wars: Episode IV-A New Hope. He had asked Mark in 1976 how he felt about reprising the role as a middle aged man for the sequel trilogy "around 2011". He told Mark he would be needed as it would be Luke handing "Excalibur to the next generation". Due to the fact that it would be decades away ( and possibly because he thought it might not even happen ) Mark was mute in his reaction. Though, really Mark will never truly be able to put Luke aside...it's the signature role that made him a world wide icon.

I like Mark Hamill, a great actor. Although famous for his role as Luke Skywalker, much of his work often goes unnoticed - before watching this I didn't even know about Corvette Summer or the Big Red One! That's the trouble with having a 'signature' role: it's a double-edged sword, swings one way you get worldwide recognition, then it can chop back down upon other roles such as 'Elephant Man' and 'Amadeus'. However, I have seen 'Timerunner' and 'Slipstream' (both cult sci-fi movies), and the comic-book style 'Mutronics' (not mentioned by name in this documentary). However, it's good to know that he enjoyed a career on Broadway and received further accolades through his brilliant voice-acting (developed from a keen interest in cartoon and animations during his youth) especially The Joker. Such action-hero, comic book roles must have seemed as pure gold to him, a full circle. Furthermore, he played Christopher Blair in the Wing Commander video game franchise. Oh heck, there's too many strings to his bow to mention - I urge everyone, right now, to consult his profile on Wikipedia!

Mark Hamill was prettier than his sister and looked like his father. Shame about his disfiguring car accident. This documentary glosses over the fact that Hamill's wife was a Playboy model and that the couple had to get married because Nathan was on the way. It was still shocking in those days for a movie star to have to get married. Hamill is a bad boy in his private life and his eldest son, Nathan, takes after him, but I am glad that the Hamill's marriage is a happy one and didn't buckle under the usual strain of most Hollywood marriages.
@barbarawinsor84017 жыл бұрын
Hey GAYnor, What an awful thing to say. His wife was a dental assistant when he met her. Stop spreading lies. And so she got in trouble. Getting pregnant out of wedlock happens more than people know and it could happen to anybody. It doesn't make him a "bad boy". He has stayed married to her for decades. Get a life, creep.

You obviously haven't watched any of his interviews. Mark never has a unkind word to say about any of the people he's worked with. He's funny as hell, self-deprecating, and slips in and out of impressions of his castmates, even producers on the films. And he loves the fans. He understands very well what Luke means and the place that character holds. Go watch the interview he did with Frank Oz.
