IT was sad to hear about Mark's broken nose -- and allegedly near fatal crash -- but his "new" face for Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, in my opinion, added to his character's growth as a Jedi Knight and really as a grown man. By Return of the Jedi, Luke was no longer a farm boy.
@ahabduennschitz7670
@ahabduennschitz7670 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah but thats especially because of Hamils acting. His stand and the way he speaks completely changed and he has this noble and wise aura surrounding him. It wouldn't make any difference how his Face looked, its all in the acting
@tperson8347
@tperson8347 2 жыл бұрын
@@ahabduennschitz7670 Can't it be both? I agree with both of you. The injury lent itself perfectly to the adventures of Luke Skywalker, and Mark Hamill did play the Hell outta Luke Skywalker. Side note: I love how Luke calmy chokes out those pig guards. He's like, "Fellas?" The shot of Luke putting on that glove in his cockpit was a reminder to himself not to utilize his father's persona any further. He sheds the mask as he leaves Tatooine and humbles himself before he returns to Yoda

@@tperson8347 Well, he already had the Face injurys in Empire strikes back and there he still had the over confident, kinda cocky attitude. It completely changed with Return of Jedi because this was the Point where Luke reached real Wisdom and became one of the most powerful Jedis who ever existed

I'd heard, back in the 80s, it had been a very serious accident and required facial reconstruction, and didn't know it occurred prior to Empire. Just goes to show how misinformation could spread back in the 70's and 80's and there was no way to find out the truth, unless you happened to catch him on a late night talk show

how come Mark didnt look different in "Corvette Summer" filmed before empire, or literally ANY of the interviews he did in 1977? the car crash barely changed his face at all. he just looked different in empire because of aging and because he pretty much had ZERO body fat during that time.

I love interviews from the 80s. Night and day difference from modern "interview" style, which is completely scripted and inauthentic. This is very honest (maybe not even what they say, but watching the body language and non verbals is fascinating) and feels completely off the cuff. The interviewer asks terrific questions (unfortunately for Ford). So grateful for the channel for posting these.

Interviews serve two purposes: to entertain and to get to know about the celebrities. Harrison is really bad at this (or totally indifferent), lol. Hamill was on it! Funny how both their answers and attitudes really reflect how they view their roles in these movies in hindsight today. Fossegrim I remember reading an interview with the director on Return of the Jedi, and he said Harrison was trying hard to convince him to kill Han off because he didn't want to do Star Wars anymore. The fact that he refused until a certain sum of money was involved further proves his reluctance or approval of his involvement with the series.

@113686381983900865765 That's his right, I guess, but I find it ironic, because he's so good as Han Solo... Ford's a pretty limited actor, but as Han Solo I always get impressed, including in the new one. People who don't remember when The Empire Strikes Back came out and the hype of the next movie, Revenge Of The Jedi, will forever trash on anyone who still calls it that. The title was much hyped common knowledge until they later changed it because they "didn't want to give away the plot".

Yeah, it sounds pretty chilling! Actually, the original title for 'Return of the Jedi' was supposed to be 'Revenge of the Jedi.' During the time of this interview it was still 'Revenge of the Jedi.' It wasn't until later, shortly before the film was released, that it was changed to 'Return of the Jedi.' The cast and crew decided that 'Revenge of the Jedi' did not make sense and ruined the image of the Jedi because Jedi do not seek revenge. They seek protection and peace. The title 'Return of the Jedi' also ties into the fact that after Luke becomes a full Jedi and he and his friends save the galaxy, all of the deceased Jedi "return" through their Force spirits at the end of the movie.

"I don't know about the 3rd film, "Revenge of the Jedi..." I had a Monster magazine circa fall 1980 that had that same title for the coming-soon movie that Mark calls it for the 'Return of the Jedi'. After the release of RotJ, George Lucas was asked about the title change within the last year, he said that revenge wasn't fitting of a Jedi's way, but more appropriate to the dark side & simply made the change when he realized it.
