During the Letterman interview, they did show one of Mark Harmon great actions during the game he and UCLA did against Nebraska in 1972-1973. What a strong arm!

I was at that game. Sept. 9, 1972. Harmon was 4 for 8 passing, 65 yds and a TD. He also ran for 71 yds. and another TD. Nebraska was #1 in the nation at that time and a 21-point favorite. UCLA won 20-17.

In those days Nebraska was a mighty powerhouse in college football. They had just won the previous TWO national titles in football. This was a huge upset that was won with a 30 yard field goal with 22 seconds left by UCLA kicker Efren Herrera. Herrera went on to play several years kicking in the pros for the Dallas Cowboys as well as with a few other teams.

I remember listening to this game on the radio since it wasnt on TV back then. It was a night game and played on the west coast so it didn't end until close to midnight central time. It was very disappointing because it was Nebraska's first loss since 1969 and pretty much ended Devaney's chance for a 3rd consecutive National Chanpionship. Still a good year because Nebraska ends up 4th in the country by beating Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl and Johhny Rodgers wins the Heisman and Rich Glover wins the Outland Award.

What's rarely if ever mentioned is the following season when UCLA traveled to Lincoln -- QB Mark Harmon's senior year -- the #4 Cornhuskers absolutely thrashed the #10 Bruins 40-13 in a game that wasn't as close as the final score. It was also the very first game as Nebraska head coach for the legendary Tom Osborne.

That was truly an exceptional throw. What amazed me about it was the power on the ball was clearly visible. I wonder why he never went to the NFL watching this unless his other years and other plays were less then stellar?

Mark Harmon actually had a chance to play in the NFL. Chuck Fairbanks contacted about a spot on the New England Patriots but Mark declined. Luck for the 1985 Bears, just saying.

clipobserver. The Bears would've blown out The Patriots regardless.

Mark wasn't his father, but had he aimed to be the best in football and not in acting, I've no doubt he would have succeed: the man has Iron Will.

Dam Mr. James Espinoza, You sure seem like you know your football history. But there are a few things I didn't understand about your post. You said Nebraska would not play Texas. Texas and Nebraska's last game prior to 1974 was in 1960 it was played in Austin and Nebraska won the game 14 to 13. In 1974 Nebraska did play Texas in the Cotton Bowl and Nebraska won that game 19 to 3. Then you proceed to claim that Nebraska "Panicked under the big blah blah blah" What's your problem ? I mean yea Nebraska got beat by a good UCLA football team by 3 points. I can hardly believe they "panicked" come on. And by the way you forgot to mention that UCLA's underdog win over Nebraska snapped the 2 time defending National Champions 32 game win streak. And that to me seems like one hell of a accomplishment. Something to be proud of. So why all the trash talk ? I could bring up what happened the next year when UCLA visited Lincoln. And got throttled 40 to 13. But it would be pointless to drop down to your level. But please do your homework before posting your childish remarks because it really makes you look like a fool

+Peter Travis, no one talks about the following year because no one cares. This is a clip of a well known actor and his highlight from a game in college. What happened when these 2 teams played the next year is irrelevant.

J Pep It depends on if you're a Nebraska or UCLA fan. Both games are important. You don't like the fact that Nebraska manhandled UCLA the next year!

Nebraska was overrated beating the likes of Kansas State, Kansas, Iowa State, Missouri. They would not play Texas. Nebraska panicked under the big night lights of the Coliseum and big time West Coast Football

That is absurd. They played Oklahoma every year. They won Orange Bowls against LSU ('71), Alabama ('72), and Notre Dame ('73).
