Here are some actual things to do (coming from a floridian), if it's a cat 3, 4, or 5 really consider evacuating. Anything below that will probably be a normal rainstorm. Make sure to have tons of water, some food such as MREs, and have a safe place to bunker down, make sure to have a radio so you can listen to see if it's over, and make sure go have extra gasoline, make sure to board up your windows and doors if there are high winds and flood water.

I ain’t mad@@ass-a-tony6323. I was in Harve y living in a bird sanctuary-but the further we went down the street, the water was over the stop sign, & up to the second floor of an apartment complex. It’s not always just wind buddy. They prolly laughed at Noah building an ark too. It is what it is.

I store several 2 liter bottle of water in my freezer. I fill them up 3/4 of the way to allow for expansion. When power goes out (could be up to a week or more ) i remove one at a time and put the bottle in my lower fridge to help keep it cool and open fridge as little as possible. when bottle thaws out i use it for drinking water or to cook with . Already tested on a couple of hurricanes that hit us in Louisiana. Can also put them in ice chest for keeping perishables cool.

Pretty skinny kit. Not mentioned but should've been.... Medications. If you take medicine you need to have a months supply extra. Asthmatics ask for a spare inhaler. Cash, have plenty on hand. You might not be able to access a bank or atm for weeks. Good duck tape and other quick fasteners like zip ties or bungee toggles. Keep your vehicles fueled. Know how far you can go before needing fuel and then subtract 30 miles incase you have to deal with traffic jams where you will be idling for extended periods. A firearm, preferably a pistol with ammunition. Become proficient with it. In a disaster you will be your own first responder. Dying for a cooler or gas isnt worth it but if you and family are threatened or someone wants a backpack with your medicine in it then make your own decision. Just think about what you would absolutely need for two weeks to evacuate or shelter in place.
