I live in Texas (also prone to dangerous weather events). My husband passed 7 years ago. I purchased a generator and had an electrician install a transfer switch. Seems like a safer process than dealing with running extension cords into the house. Pray each season I won’t have to use it. Wishing you all the best in getting a backup system set up🙏🏻

Dev- if you use regular gas, make sure you drain the generator after use. In the future, use ethanol free gas and then you don’t have to worry about build up. Stay safe!

We bought that same brand generator in 2018 . Hurricane Michael CAT 5. We were without power for a little over 2 months. The generator worked perfect and is still going strong anytime we need to pull it out. We just got back from.a weeks vacay in Orlando. We just missed this storm. Both of you please be safe.

We also have the same brand but a larger version. We used it for the first time during the huge winter storm last winter. It was great at keeping our fridge cool and basics going. Highly recommend 👍🏻

You have to be prepared for the aftermath. Limited gas available if any and no electricity. Delivery trucks not able to get through for several days. Have enough of everything you need for a few weeks. Stay safe! We are praying for Florida!

I recommend picking up a Kill-A-Watt meter, and plug it into the outlet on the generator, that way you will be able to see how much actual power that fish tank setup is pulling. I doubt it is necessary to unplug the the rig to plug in something else. If you look at the generator you will see the running watts and the starting watts are lower if you run propane instead of gas. I'd consider it so that way you know what everything is pulling.

It’s not panic buying, it’s preparedness buying. When so many people need the same thing it might seem like panic buying but it’s just everyone at the same time getting prepared a few days early….just like you went to get more generator supplies. It’s just the nature of the beast!

The early forecast was right in that it's going more north toward tally and not east toward tampa, so it won't be bad at all in Orlando. Maybe 20 mph winds and regular rain. Those outer bands won't hit that often and most will probably dissipate before it gets to us. At least you're prepared for the next one.

Hope y’all have no problems at all! Sending prayers from NC. We invested in an indoor generator - charge from home power - we have at least 10 hours of “all appliances including window unit ac”. No gasoline, no propane, no noise. Used it not long ago when power went out here in downtown Raleigh, NC, power out for 4 hours. Yes, it’s only 10 hours but no gas, no oil, no noise - worth every penny. We hope to invest in another one pretty soon.

I live in Orlando & yes, Walmart carts are the worst! For TV, I recommend The Last Kingdom. And Dark Winds on AMC. Great Shows! Stay safe. So far at almost 1 AM on Wednesday morning, it's not really doing anything. Fingers crossed it stays this way!

Dev sometime would you please show how you run the cords from the generator to what ever you are powering inside ie: the refrigerator, the fish tank etc. if you run it through an opened window or door you loose what ever cool air you have and your home isn’t secure. Having dealt with 5 hurricanes, I can honestly tell u those smaller gasoline generators are a waste of time. I would absolutely suggest a standby generator that runs on natural gas.

do you have a small window unit? I was without power from Aug 29 to Sept 13 from Hurricane Ida. Running the window unit at nite helped me tolerate the day. I also had 10/ 5 gallon gas containers which came in handy because we had to go to Gulfport Ms to get gas. I used one per day. Just something to consider. Remember to fill your tub with water to flush!
