Before Neighbourhoods, Mark would write a song or Tom would write a song, and the other one and Travis would have some input. Generally the one singing lead vocals wrote the majority of the song.

Just goes to show that being technically superior at your instrument doesnt mean you're a good songwriter. At the end of the day the majority of bands/artists who became super popular and sold millions of records did so because they focused on writing good songs that were catchy and creative. Foo Fighters are another great example of this

@chrumnix I think most of the time they do that but not always, because I know that Tom wrote "Stay Together for the Kids" but Mark sings lead vocals on that song and one doesn't necessarily write the whole song. On "Feeling This" they both went into separate rooms and wrote lyrics after they looked at what they wrote and made the song which is why the verses and the chorus contrast because one is about love and one is about sex.
