Riley Sears Yeah Mark has written some creative bass stuff! I think they were shadowed by Tom’s riffing a bit on the early days.

I think it also has to do with the fact that they were never "serious" as a band and as people. They constantly said they fucking sucked and none of their stuff is super hard (for the exception of Travis drum parts) soooooo there's that

I think he goes in the category of 'Solid' bass player. Simple lines, but does it well and has written a few catchy ones.

I went to a music college, studied it at university and was surrounded by musicians who were so arrogant and even called him a terrible bass player and there I was sitting with my Fender Mark Hoppus signature thinking they were a dumbass haha

Dave Richardson yknow I was kinda guilty being one of those snobs who exclusively listened to progressive metal and would bash on pop punk. But I’ve grown up since then and realized how those kind of people and the elitist mindset can really turn people off. These days I’m carefree so you like what you like and never let those douchebags take that away from you.

As a metalhead that grew with Pop-Punk/Melodic Hardcore influences, Mark Hoppus is so damn amazing bass player, he is the reason that I play bass over guitar (I play guitar, but bass is my main), his bass lines are amazing

@@codyjumper5019 seeing as lars is infamously known for not being able to keep tempo. His bass lines are stale, repetitive, and boring. He gets credit but is seen as a shit player

Mark Hoppus has an excellent notion of melody, his basslines are amazing, not too complicated, not too flashy, they sound awesome in a band setting (for a power trio), he is an underrated bassist, even in not too well known songs (older songs, demos, etc) he does amazing bass lines

Mark was the first bassist I personally noticed playing chords when I was a kid and he's one of the reasons I even picked up bass in the first place when I was 13.

It's mixed very low, I don't know why, considering the rest of the album is very bass-heavy

Good stuff man! Mark does not get the apprciation he deserves. And life’s so boring should have been a full song. I just love it! Yes one of those basslines was used in story of a lonely guy and it’s one of my favourites on TOYPAJ. Still I think there’s material for two whole songs.

Feeling This is easily his most underrated in my opinion. I never really listened to it until i learned to play it. As someone one who isnt the biggest fan of the song, the bass is the best part.
