Riley Sears Yeah Mark has written some creative bass stuff! I think they were shadowed by Tom’s riffing a bit on the early days.

I think it also has to do with the fact that they were never "serious" as a band and as people. They constantly said they fucking sucked and none of their stuff is super hard (for the exception of Travis drum parts) soooooo there's that

I went to a music college, studied it at university and was surrounded by musicians who were so arrogant and even called him a terrible bass player and there I was sitting with my Fender Mark Hoppus signature thinking they were a dumbass haha

Dave Richardson yknow I was kinda guilty being one of those snobs who exclusively listened to progressive metal and would bash on pop punk. But I’ve grown up since then and realized how those kind of people and the elitist mindset can really turn people off. Mark Hoppus has an excellent notion of melody, his basslines are amazing, not too complicated, not too flashy, they sound awesome in a band setting (for a power trio), he is an underrated bassist, even in not too well known songs (older songs, demos, etc) he does amazing bass lines
