I'd put Phillip Seymour Hoffman's performance in this up there with almost anything else he's done, possibly it stands out even more because of the genre convention surrounding it, but it's just intensely grounded & moving. So still, understated & nuanced . . . Until it's explosive with genuine seething rage! Absolutely incredible!

@85cube Ah come on Star Trek was a pretty decent reboot considering what we have seen in contrast to other reboots.

The film’s thrilling, action packed, well focused & is an effective action adventure spy thriller that’s right for A summer action flick. (84%) (4/5 stars) (positive)

MI3 is the best in the series (so far) by quite a distance too in my personal opinion. I thought it was really solid stuff.

Predictable, thin plot and characters: all yes, but that's okay with me where this movie is concerned. The staging of the action scenes are the only real thing that matters in a movie like that. And they're brilliantly staged. Really witty and tight. The scenes in the weird revolving, rotating car park and the prison at the beginning are so cleverly constructed it's like watching a musical or something. And the skyscraper sequence is an instant classic for me. So, yeah. But I do not hate you...

Which MI movie are you referring to exactly? I'm guessing it's MI4 and not 3...

It is quite nasty, surprisingly so [in a a pretty good way lol] for a 12a I love that Kermode doesn't get all snooty and elitist about MI3. Personally, I didn't think it was great: PSH is the best thing in it, but that wasn't enough for me. it's better than MI2 but that's not hard to be honest. The mask stuff really made me laugh though haha :)

YOU'RE BORING. Seriously though, while I recognise that it is by no means perfect (even just by the standard of OTT action movies) I must say I found it the exact opposite of boring. But eh, that's just me and that.

I'm a fan of well-made, fun movies containing awesomeness. If that makes me a fanboy, so be it.

@jd899 Perfectly put. Doesn't have the visual flair of 1 or 2 because, well, it's a bit much asking Abrams to compete with De Palma or Woo in that department, but the best years of Alias means he does know how to juggle and unfold all the necessary elements of an entertaining spy plot. Small correction for Kermode : MI2 actually contains the strongest moments of nastiness in the franchise with all the martial arts stuff beating each other to a pulp, as well as images of the flesh eating virus.

Probably the best of the trilogy, the first had a bit too complicated plot, the second had hardly any plot and the third has the right balance of plot and action. Also I liked the trip down memory lane and how the kids of now are lucky

A movie review that seems to have aged pretty well. Kermode was effusive, ebullient even, when reviewing the latest MI flick, ‘Dead Reckoning’. Say what you like about Tiny Tom but, he knows how to make a good movie. As for rockabilly Mark, I LOVE it when he bangs on about Friedkin’s ‘Exorcist’ or Villeneuve’s ‘Blade Runner 2049’. The guy cares about film & he always gives a movie a fair crack of the whip, I feel.
