Mark Kermode, of all of them, knows exactly how to watch a film so when he says something's not working he's usually right. You'll do well to listen to his reviews on BBC 5 and see that he ISN'T "sleepy". In fact he's the one defending all the movies the REAL sleep heads are trashing and the best thing about him is, he'll go and see films twice just to make sure he hadn't taken things the wrong way. He's THE God of cinema.

Greer does her usual trick of turning everything into a 'anti/pro-feminist' critique, which is not the point at all. McMillan is a sound guy (I met him during one of his book signings), and he is very much what the 'average' filmgoer would get from Kill Bill 2. Kermode really nailed it once again though. Tarantino simply being self indulgent and making films solely for himself to enjoy.

@TulseLuper15 жыл бұрын
Untrue. The Aviator is an excellent film and Bringing Out the Dead is an underrated classic. Even his weaker films like The Departed and Gangs of New York still have flashes of brilliance here and there. Tarantino, on the other hand, has never made anything with half the amount of depth or intelligence as Scorsese even on an average day. After building up his style to Jackie Brown, by far his most mature film, he threw it all away and frankly has stopped trying. That's the problem.

@Transformers2themax: Hollywood has been a global brand for half a century now. What does it matter what country you are from? The Kill Bill series is only partly inspired by American themes, as there is a lot of Asian motifs that inspired Taratino. Not too long ago Mark Kermode named his top ten films; almost every one of them was a Hollywood film that took place in America. His favorite film is The Exorcist.

Couldn’t disagree more. It’s a mood piece fairytale of that era and for once he has genuine characters (aside from Jackie Brown). Yes those characters are archetypes of the characters he loved from the 60/70’s, but they aren’t archetypes of Tarantino himself (which is every character in every film of his is bar Jackie brown). Kill bill films and death proof are by far his weakest films.

You have to appreciate that to most critics, certainly Mark Kermode, films are something more than entertainment: they're an art form. Where most people can sit through a summer blockbuster and enjoy it, critics can't because generally these types of films are badly made. Kermode once said that if you're a critic that has never been called a snob then you're more like a showbiz correspondent. Hate when critics smugly run down a movie while showing they know very little about the intentions of the creators. Trying to bring feminism into it is stupid although it seems un-feminist to criticise it as un-feminist. That view seems to come from woman and drama-queen men who don't know that Uma didn't do anything men weren't doing in action films for years. In fact early kung fu films always featured woman in the hero role.
