"The people who didnt like it used words like: toxic, cynical or irresponsible". Im one of those people who didn't like the first film mainly because i didnt want to watch a poor man's remake of Taxi Driver and King of Comedy with vague cardboard cutouts of comic book characters being substituted in for the characters in the film.

I have a feeling I’m going to like this too, I loved the first film, not for the charged origin story but for the deliciously personal tragedy of it all. From what I’m hearing I’ll get more of that this time.

Exactly…it’s weird, and I love its weirdness. Not being condescending but I also appreciated the bravery and boldness but the cast and crew. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and appreciated the ending too! 🎉👏🏾🎬

The first film felt like a corporation attempting to do an arthouse film, like McDonalds attempting to do fine dining. I have to admit, this doesn't appeal to me in any real way.

The first film is the best I've seen in the last twenty years, with certainly the best performance, so this one will have to go so me to better it. I'm always astounded when I hear people insist Joker had no "depth" (however that's supposed to be defined), as I thought it spoke volumes about mental health, modern society, and the nonsense of celebrity - volumes that may have been obvious to some, but sometimes the obvious needs stating.

I suspect it's more that the people who say that think that it tried to say all those things, but ultimately failed at doing so through the way it ended. That in the end it undermined itself. That's the narrative around the movie as I understood it, at least.

Joker is in my top twenty films of all time. I just like the nihilism. It's sweet. There's an innocence played in the darkness that's very appealing. I haven't seen this yet, but i can't believe it will be close to Joker. Bring on the... Gesture. (See what i did there? 😊)
