Mark Kermode reviews Serena. North Carolina mountains at the end of the 1920s - George and Serena Pemberton, love-struck newly-weds, begin to build a timber empire. Her acting in this movie was great in my opinion, but the movie plot feels rushed.

I liked it, but then I have a guilty affection for melodrama and period settings. The characters were relatively complex too.

I thought this was a very good movie and don't get the vitriol. Not a big fan of Lawrence, but she sure did a range of emotions in this well. We went from admiring her to dreading her and wondering if she was just suffering survivor guilt or did she kill her entire family.

Lawrence is an amazing actress,she would easily get anotHER Oscar nomination for this movie tho if the movie was great but it isn't.ugh

People r saying its to dramatic depressing where she tries to kill this gay guy so he won't go to jail blah blah blah and she droops her baby she wants to kill the gf of Bradley and his child and saying its depressing how she becomes crazy burns herself in the end and he gets eaten by a tiger but manages to kill it still "Oh it's too dramatic!" That's what they all say "It's too depressing!" The point is the category is under dramatic so obviously what comes to your mind so I give it a 8.3

I like how Hollywood continues to have zero interest in getting actors that actually look like people did in the olden days.

Serena seems like a Byonic antihero. It's just that I just felt that these characters were really awful people and I found it hard to enthrall my interest with their cares.
