On our drives to radiation treatment, I'd play music for Dad. This is the last song he heard. His brain was increasingly tattered by chemo-induced delirium. But he absentmindedly commented, "That's a really nice song. Really beautiful." I squeezed his hand and told him, "Yeah, Dad. It's your Emmylou." The song was on his funeral mix. How appropriate.

@@mxaexm I believe the lyrics were written by Emmy Lou Harris as a tribute to all those who died at 9/11, and in particular, to those, in the hi-jacked planes or the towers, who used their mobile phones to call those they loved when it became clear that there was not going to be a happy ending. Since his days after leaving Dyer Straits, I have come to really appreciate this man's true appreciation for the guitar. Knopfler's style is truly unique, with his trademark string bending style. Do you even realize you're performing in front of a live audience Knopler? Looks like you're completely lost in your music, totally absorbed, oblivious to anything happening before you. As a guitarist, that's a true pleasure to watch (and listen to!).
