Knopfler has one of the best ear/feel/understanding of and insight into arrangement of any modern composer. Bringing a violin in for this tune, CONCEIVING of how eloquently it would support then carry the melody, it's almost magical. He does this with so many of his songs. This song is one of the Hymns of My Life, which is a playlist that tells the story of my life. Watching the sun sink into the sea each night and a place where I am in tune with the stars and the joy that it brings us both. As I grow older, though, it reminds me that my whole life with my husband has been my own Shangri-la. Lucky me.

This song reminds me about my wife. It was her favorite song before she lost the battling to cancer, I wish I could change the hands of time, I miss her smiles, she was always there for me and our lovely daughter, and I never miss a moment with her, life could be so unfair most times, there is some pain, I will cry in vain but won’t let you know how I will feel yes, I will miss you to the core! but some times i wonder why bad thing always happen to good people. She’s always in our hearts.

The tone of Mark's Strat just has the hair on the back of my neck tingling and my heart turning...what a sweet tone he gets out of the guitar ! He and Marvin bring out the melody and sweetness of the Strat like no one else has done. And the brilliant magic of piano violin and guitar and absolute vocal harmony of Mark and Emma.. ..music cannot be greater or more ethereal that this..I simply cannot get over the sweetness of the treble E string and the guttural growl of the open 6th E string!! What a tonal mastery of the loveliest guitar ever made !!!! And the soft caressing notes of the violin...so delicately played...he handles the violin like a Ming vase.. coaxing the smooth fluid melody out of it....breathtaking awesome playing.

If you can make magic with music then Mark Knoffler has found the recipe. I have been a fan of Dire Straits and Marks solos for many, many years (I'm 68) seen the band live a few times and bought my son up to appreciate them but I really do think that this song has it all and more. Thank you so much Mr. Knoffler you brighten my days and are never predictable. Just love your music. 💖
