Since dire straits ended his music has got better and better you can clearly see his folk roots coming through,one of if not the best story tellers ,you add his guitar playing and you have perfection.

I don't know your age, but I've followed MK since Sultan's of Swing my senior year in high school1979 (that would make me closing in on 52, folks). I don't know if it's an age thing, but his music has resonated with my soul since day one. The guy makes life observations, combined with just the right guitar intonations and musical arrangements. The younger set wants to hip hop & dance, in my mind. No room for reflection/introspection in this fast pace wireless e-world....SLOW DOWN & enjoy!

What a pleasure to watch Mark playing on acoustic guitar! Only his hands may produce those magic sounds which can be compared only with the hands of Michelangelo working on his Davide... and my sincere compliments of all his band members.. thank you all!

1979..was also the end of high school to me, Mr. Howe..and I guess our generation was very lucky getting introduced with DS band and an exceptional musician like MK. I think that most of people believe that he's an "alien" guitar player, whilst in my opinion Sir Knopfler is a multi-talented artist, a genius by all means, & his guitar playing & technique (which to me, is absolutely the best for the past and it will remain unique for next 1999 years) is his last and most unimportant feature... ☺

Even though he spent mos of his artistic days in England, that does not necessarily erase the fact that he was born in Glasgow...from Hungarian father and English mother.. As for the second part of your comment, I agree with you 1000 %, he is and for sure will remain in the same row with classic geniuses of humanity, a live legend and many people will be "Knopfler-ized" ..☺ !

Perfect arrangement of all. Mark knopfler is out of the spfere of linear guitarist. His deminuendo, and he plays even if he not play, and you hear this, erevything is so important, brilliant, so easy, and so much layers. so under skin, but intelectual fair, he is in the manire of best cowboy.
@greenwich17549 жыл бұрын
+Nino Balac Ok, are you Ted Kennedy on a bender, or is it just me? Mark Knopfler is out of this "spfere"? His "deminuedo"? And lastly, "He is the "manire of best cowboy""? Did you mean "manure"? Speak and spell soberly, please.

Probably my all time favorite album is Dire Straits self-titled debut album in 1978. Not a dog song on it, in my mind, and superb guitar playing. If you get his solo stuff, just don't expect to be rocking a lot. He's mellowed out, and much more restrained (with exceptions) in his guitar playing, but he's great with story telling & words. Many songs will leave you longing for the more Dire Straits-type solos, but his music tends to grow on me no matter - but remember, I'm almost 52, not 15!

just because he was born in Scotland does not necessarily mean that he is an actual Scotsman. Even tough he was born in Scotland, he lived and made music in England for the vast majority of his days. Whatever, Knopfler is a genius, no matter where he comes from. And of course - Scotland is great :)
