I've seen so many versions of Telegraph Road but this is the one that really hit it home for me. The whole emotional and melodic build up leading to the explosion at the end was just mind blowing. He made that Fender talk, whisper, shout, scream and wail. What a song...

What’s even more amazing is that he’s 62 or 63 when this was performed, an age when arthritis and creakyness in your joints sets in (I know because he and I are the same age). Yet he’s lost none of his dexterity on the fret and it sounds as good as when he was in his 20s/30s. Just a treasure to the world.

Any time I've seen him play this with another guitar it just doesn't seem the same, as with a les paul, nothing sounds like a strat, and no one sounds like Mark with a strat, elegance and class, there's something very " out worldly" about this man, his expression of passion and technique touches you on a soul level, he's the musical explanation of what draws every guitarist to the instrument, much love respect and thanks to have such inspiration to remind you of the power and magic of music and a guitar ✌🏼️
@KRAZEEIZATION5 жыл бұрын
The original is still the best. I've just bout Love Over Gold on MOFI double LP pressing and can't wait to hear it as it's my favourite Dire Straits album. As years have gone on his playing is far more dark and distorted, the clean Strat tone is now pretty rare which is a pity, like you said "no one sounds like Mark with a strat"!!! True. He's using Komet amps now and they're rich and dark like a Marshall or a Mesa.

Anyone who has tried to learn the original 1982 version will testify it is a challenge. MK rarely, if ever, plays the studio version live. Instead he embellishes the texture of the studio version by weaving sympathetic runs and riffs into the frame of the original. He can produce a dozen different variations because he has in his playing arsenal a unique knowledge of how the phrases of the original can be unlocked and put back together in a different, but immediately recognisable form. I think just playing the original time after time would bore him.
@aqwrd35464 жыл бұрын
It’s how songs should be played imo. It’s more fun to play and it’s a challenge. Also people can learn from each other if new ideas are being created all the time.

If I want to listen to this song ever, this is where I come, not to any of the concert footage version. Whatever it is about the positioning here, it just gets the power of the song in all the right places. The base reverberates as you'd feel it in a real concert and you can hear Edge's guitar so clearly. And that ending that rises and rises and rises to the crescendo. Yep, for me the most raw, beautiful version of the song live.

-Johannes 5:25-30 -Raamattu 1933/1938
