Incredible. I'm 73 and I started listening to Dire Straits any many years ago, and will continue to listen the rest of my life. I will request Brothers in Arms and Telegraph Road for my final music choices. MK is simply the best musician I have heard in my life. Thank you Mark for your genius and the emotion in your music.

Probably this is the most divine version of Telegraph Road... what remains is that schools of music must include this performance into their study books... its' not only the guitar playing, listen to the piano, the drum, percussion, everything there is simply divine. All sounds coming out from the instruments, take you to somewhere you've never been before... a million thanks to Mark and his brilliant band....

Mark has retired now and I wish him all the best.Time to have a rest.He has made millions of people happy with his music and songs.God Bless him always.Thank you Mark.❤️He is still producing his music though but no more concert's.He is 72 years old now.
@jennywren78222 жыл бұрын
Yes what we forget is we wear out as we get older, one video I've seen after this one he shakes his wrist after playing this. I'm 75 now and pain is normal, it's hard work playing that guitar with a wrist that hurts. I don't think he'll stop completely, but no touring and concerts, it's probably his life. Jeff Lynne's the same he's still performing and he's 74, doesn't look a day older than when he built ELO. Both worthy of Knighthoods and I hope that comes true before its too late. I've just rediscovered both on here after many years and I listen with my ear buds and dance in a fashion 😅 Long may they reign with good health...

does it get any better........smooth, a dear friend turned me onto Dire Straits, way back in tha day. loved them and him ever since. especially as we've matured, i find him sooooooo comforting. he only has a few of his caliber.......and they make it "Look" so easy. SRV RIP, Mr. "Slowhand" himself of course thats the great Eric Clapton, the Late George Harrison & Roy Orbison. there are others. so soulful and they don't have to jump around, and get all 'CRAZY' to express themselves. Watch Roy in 'a black & white Night' he barely moves but he's rockin it big time and knockin it outta da park. I feel that Mark's mellowed like the finest wine, esp since he's been out on his own.....beyond Dire Straits. Keeps me coming back all the time.

An absolute classic. The interplay of guitar and piano; the range of dynamics - and of course MK's soulful playing. I do prefer this to later live versions where he uses a more distorted guitar - something about how the purity of the clean sound works better for the song IMO.

The line I like best in this is "Then there was a hard time, then there was a war", and in 11 words Mark has summed up the depression of the 1930s and World War 2. This is a subtle, emotional history of the founding, the rise and the post-industrial fall of the American mid-west in a little over 10 minutes. Just brilliant.

I remember after Jerry died, the brutal gaping wound that some of us thought could somehow be healed by the rest of the band carrying on with another brilliant guitarist in Jerry's place. This was before all the versions of the dead, dead and company etc etc that were to follow. I remember the top contender amongst plenty of us at the time was Mark Knopfler - not that he would have wanted/ taken the gig - but he has that same special kind of touch. We are lucky to have been born at this time in history - such treasures we have found.

"A long time ago came a man on a track Walking thirty miles with a sack on his back And he put down his load where he thought it was the best Made a home in the wilderness He built a cabin and a winter store And he ploughed up the ground by the cold lake shore And the other travellers came walking down the track And they never went further, no, they never went back Then came the churches, then came the schools Then came the lawyers, then came the rules Then came the trains and the trucks with their load And the dirty old track was the Telegraph Road Then came the mines, then came the ore Then there was the hard times, then there was a war Telegraph sang a song about the world outside Telegraph Road got so deep and so wide Like a rolling river And my radio says tonight it's gonna freeze People driving home from the factories There's six lanes of traffic Three lanes moving slow I used to like to go to work but they shut it down I've got a right to go to work but there's no work here to be found Yes, and they say we're gonna have to pay what's owed We're gonna have to reap from some seed that's been sowed And the birds up on the wires and the telegraph poles They can always fly away from this rain and this cold You can hear them singing out their telegraph code All the way down the Telegraph Road Well, I'd sooner forget, but I remember those nights Yeah, life was just a bet on a race between the lights You had your hand on my shoulder, you had your hand in my hair Now you act a little colder like you don't seem to care But just believe in me baby and I'll take you away From out of this darkness and into the day From these rivers of headlights, these rivers of rain From the anger that lives on the streets with these names 'Cause I've run every red light on memory lane I've seen desperation explode into flames And I don't wanna see it again From all of these signs saying "sorry but we're closed" All the way down the Telegraph Road"
