Hi, I first listened to this song when I was 10 years old, I was pretending I was a ballerina dancing about the lounge area in the children’s home at the time.This was my first musical experience.We were never encouraged to listen to music,or anything else for that matter, we were the unwanted children of an era where if you were conceived out of wedlock you were taken away from your parents,adopted,if you were lucky.But for me, a sentence from hell within an institution ( children’s home). This song that I happened to hear on the radio, just once , was my saviour in believing that there was something beautiful, creative, something more than the misery I experienced at that particular time going on in the world outside, from then on, I promised myself that I would sing, play, write, to all of the other children and give them a sense of comfort. Iam a Nurse now, I still sing to patients and still see the profound effects that music can bring to people of all ages and backgrounds.Thanks Mark.🙏

The best part of this particular version to me is that he leaves out the verse where Juliets dreams come true and she leaves Romeo. @johnmanning5568Ай бұрын
This beautiful song was released when I married my Juliet but I was too immature to realise that I had been awarded top prize. I was too selfish and didn’t give her sufficient attention. We separated seven years later with absolutely no animosity whatsoever. As she said to me on the times that we sat and conversed before she actually left, the Carpenters’ song “I’m caught between goodbye and I love you” summed up just how she felt about the sad situation as she was struggling with the decision of whether to leave. I know beyond doubt that I am now exactly the person that I wasn’t then; the person that she wanted me to be but I was too selfish to realise. I often feel like saying to her “when you gonna realise it was just that the time was wrong”. Too late now.

For some weird reason (I wasn't listening to any music at the time) last night I was thinking about how outstanding Mr Knopfler's work is. What's amazing is that if you ignore the fact that the music is sensational and how well he plays, and then just look at the lyrics - he really puts together some sweet lines and tells amazing stories. Songs like this and Telegraph Road for example, do not need videos - it's like reading a good book, the lyrics and music help your imagination create the scenes in your head. The time is wrong, is such an undeniable truth that we feel about life as we age. As an older man, Mark renders his wonderful song with such regret and tenderness. Beautiful.

Mark is probably my most favorite of all guitar players. I love this song how it gets me emotionally everytime I hear it. You feel this,,not just hear it.

Absolutely, I am a couple of months short of 70 years old, and this song always makes me weep ! - I want to play this with my 16 year old grandson (me on Keyboards him on Guitar) but I know I'll get too emotional to finish it. Here's to all our Juliet's wherever they may be. We still miss you, it was just that the time was wrong.

@@bernardcook6542 I hear ya. I'm 62. I can play parts of it on my keyboards ( I have too many LOL .) I just close my eyes and relax. A beautiful heartfelt song.
@bernardcook65423 жыл бұрын
You can never have too many keyboards ! I currently have 3 and am looking to get another (- possibly a used Yamaha Electone HS8) - I also have 7 guitars and I'm still enjoying them all. My 16 year old grandson and I have been sharing music projects online during lockdown as we both use the same DAW software and have the same wide tastes in music.

Just watch this closely. All the hands playing instruments are aged, experienced and have played so much music over the years. Yet they play every note with so much maturity & sincerity. You will never such hands in the future. Take good note and listen to their music with your hearts. Such timeless music....

Rahul Poral why would we not see such hands in the future?
@TTPDrums5 жыл бұрын
They certainly don’t come around very often. Less so in the future as most youngsters are far too distracted to commit the time and passion needed to be this good. Talent will only take you so far..

A few minutes ago my 6 year old granddaughter asked her rumored to be terminal GP, "how old are you?" "64 - "65 in a few months." I saw the thumbnail and asked her if she wanted to hear one of the best guitar players ever? She kind of watched while Papa told her something like, " my best friend told me about this singer and group when I was in my last year of high school. '76, lets see 24 and 22 -- 46 years. He has been doing this all that time, and he's made me happy so many times - wonderful..." And by then I was choking and tearing up and having trouble talking to her as much as getting lost in my heart honoring what Mark and these guys gifts have meant to me... Thanks

I was just a young bloke when I first heard Making Movies and fell in love with it . Now I'm an old bloke and that love affair has journeyed with me throughout my years gathering memories some sad some bad but most good. I live for my music and and Dire Straits is one of the reasons why. Hopefully when I go it'll be listening to something that has made this life so beautiful.

Literally one of the best musicians in history, he might not be flashy or play fast but his music was genious, conveyed emotion and his playing is iconic. You instantly recognise a song composed by knopfler and thats the sign of a great in my opinion!

What we are getting here is decades of experience and a master musician. Imagine music without Mark Knopfler. Actually, don't do that.. it is not a nice thought. Mark is a legend and his performances will naturally be different now than they were 20 years ago, but that is also a nice thing.
