The music industry is no longer designed to find talents like Knopfler and modern society doesn't produce people like him, at least not to the same degree. The music industry fundamentally changed in the early 2000s to be more about created products than actual artists. They want complete control to push their own narrative and ultimately make more money. Independent artists have to much autonomy.

Back in August 2001, my family and I travelled from Birmingham to Hartlepool (close to County Durham, in the North East of England) for a family funeral. At some point during the car journey, this appeared on the radio. It was the first time I heard this song. It captured the melancholy mood, somewhat.
