As a guitar player myself. People really don't realize what a great guitar player Mark is. He is one of the absolute best as you will find trying to play this song the way he does is almost impossible to replicate exactly.

Who is it? Which people? Simply if you like listening to guitars you can't ignore MK. The thing is that for many people if you don't burn your guitar strings you're not a guitarist. Speed before expressiveness.

Mark Knopfler, you have a very large audience in my country {Libya🇱🇾} We enjoy you a lot, especially on stage, when you give concerts in the capitals of the world, and when you hold your unique guitar and start playing the solo guitar, we go with you very far into the fantasy world that we can only go to through your playing only. The generation of the 70's and 80's lived with you every big and small thing and grew up listening to your songs and instrumentals that broke the world and reached no end. Greetings giant 🤝👍.
Just takes yr breath away He makes everything and everyone come alive. God bless humble man Fiji love you

I always love to see the communication between musicians during live shows, often expressed just with a look or a small gesture. Like here at 4:58, where Mark just makes quick eye contact and gives a small nod to the drummer to let him know this is where he wants to go back to the main part.
@harmonicaessay96492 жыл бұрын
very cool
@devilsoffspring5519 Жыл бұрын
It's kinda cool, but really good musicians actually rehearse all of that sort of thing to improve the show. I'm sure they appreciate you noticing though!
@Case_ Жыл бұрын
@@devilsoffspring5519 It depends a lot on the type of music. But in a lot of live music, there are things you can't really rehearse (or it is unreasonable to do so), especially if a bit of improvisation is involved (which almost always is with live performances). That's where communication between musicians on stage comes :) So you don't rehearse everything to play it exactly the same each time down to a single note, but you rehearse how the "blocks" fit together and what the agreed upon "tells" for switching between them are - like guitarist giving a nod to a drummer who then plays a specific fill, which in turn lets the rest of the band know there will be a change on the very next measure.

That fender comes alive with the touch of Mark's fingers on the strings. The emotions attack the heart and mind. How can we remain insensitive to the music as he plays not only the strings but our hearts. Thank you Mark for playing all these years.

Ok, let's take it like this; He's not sad. That's the way he looks. Look at videos from -79 or -92 for an example, he does not usually smiles when there's no need. And sometimes it happens, his wonderful smile just breaks out. How I love that look! Not in this video tho, but I can give you plenty of videos where he do it. Sometimes it has to do with the songs. This is not a very happy song, or take 'Brothers in arms', he can't stay there laughing during that tune.

And the stuff you said about that something may went wrong,, Yeah, that's an idea, but I'm not sure. Of course, you can't buy happiness with money,, I can only speculate, but I think Knopfler is lucky that he had a normal life before he became a 'rock star'. He was like 28 years old when Dire Straits hit it, and he has worked as both a teacher and a journalist and had a really common life as anybody else, and that's what probably kept him from the usual rock life.
