Mark Lanegan & Maggie Björklund perform "Nutshell" by Alice In Chains at MoPOP's Founders Award fundraiser.
The Museum of Pop Culture's one-night-only annual benefit event streamed for FREE on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 with an unforgettable performance from Seattle's own Alice In Chains, plus an acclaimed lineup of tribute artists who put their own spin on some of the band's most iconic songs.
The Founders Award event serves as the nonprofit museum’s principal annual fundraiser for youth development programs, access initiatives, community engagement, and world-class exhibitions.

It's called The Quickening. The older we get, the faster time goes. It's a real thing. Sucks. I'm very close, rapidly encroaching on 50..if I even make it there. My children need their old mom, so I better.. lol. Cherish every day as much as possible. Mark Lanegan inhabited this song, coupled with Maggie Björkland on the slide - they made it their own while keeping true to the original. Absolutely beautiful. Stay well and safe.. Peace.

I was 20 years old when I had a choice of buying Soundgardens' Loud Love or Husker Du's New Day Rising. Sound garden became the soundtrack to my next 20 years... and now Kurt,Chris, and Layne and countless others are dead. And still I live, and I love their music bc it takes me back to the stupidity of youth, the passion of life. And I bring it, everyday, bc I am still alive, and living in a hollow shell ain't worth it. I explode when these songs are around...we lived in a truly creative era.

This is a beautiful Track from AIC but like Dylan wrote "Behind every beautiful thing there is some kind of pain" . Layne wrote this about himself and what he was going through in life and it wasn't pretty. Hardly anyone covers this song because you cannot sing about something that you have not experienced .But man it felt like Mark was coming from the same place where Layne was. This is hauntingly beautiful rendition of a very special song from AIC. And the Slide just added a lot of things to this cover.

In my opinion, this was the best performance of the MoPOP Founders Award 2020! Marg sang great, Maggie was absolutely awesome on the pedal steel (she made all the difference) and the others were pretty good too! And I don't understand how 15 people can dislike it. Finally, those images of Layne and Mike were heartbreaking...

When I heard Korn's cover I thought it was the best; then I heard Mastodon's cover and I thought it was the best, and then I heard this cover and I knew that, although the other covers were AMAZING, this, THIS cover was on another level! There was a level of emotion here that was absent from other covers (not that there wasn't any emotion, just not on the same level as this cover). And adding the steel guitar was an absolute stroke of genius that was the cherry on top of this amazing sundae!
