And yet I fight, and yet I fight this battle all alone
No one to cry to, no place to call home

@thewarriorsgarden-83 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much, however I'm no hero, but I was lucky enough to know and stand beside many. And I've fucked things up way more than I've ever won. It's not how many times we fall, but how many times we've stood back up. I was depressed and suicidal after the war and after loosing my family and gained almost 80 pounds in a year or so. Now I manage a chain of gyms and am in better shape than when I was in the military. The story of your life is not written in your failures, for in failing there are lessons to learn but only if you keep your heart open. It's not easy but it is worth it. Train yourself to look for and find the good in any situation. The thing itself is not bad, only our perception of the thing, once we are able to stand back and look from different perspectives we will realize the power to change the thing, obesity, depression, whatever it may be, exists inside of us. Everything you need to succeed and be happy is already inside you. I know it sounds corny but I swear it's the truth. Infinite potential exists within all of us. This is why it's so important to believe in yourself. Others will quit on you. It's just part of life. But you must never quit on yourself.

But ive never been more depressed than I am now. Thinking back is so painful because of such a sharp contrast. So sharp it's like two different people. Anyways, I love AIC, Layne was a bad ass man. It might not exist anymore, but it did. I grew up in Seattle in the 80s and 90s, and Layne's voice in Nutshell and River of Deceit especially captures the feel of Seattle of those times. There was a sense of quiet melancholy in the area before tech came in and changed it dramatically. There will never be a way to go back to those times, but at least they still survive in the memories of those of us that were there, and through the voice of Layne Staley.

Very good friend of mine named Markham was always into Alice in Chain like me, he was struggling with drugs pretty bad, mostly heroine. He got into a rehab and was doing really great, said he was clean and had good spirits. He played guitar and so I asked him to cover this song, he did and sent it to me. It was the last song he covered and recorded because unfortunately in the halfway house he was in, he was snuck heroine laced with fentanyl and due to being clean for months, when he did it, it killed him. His mother had called asking the roommates to check on him and found that he had died in his bed. RIP Mark, you were a great dude.

it's not just the lyrics, it's Layne's haunting voice, it's Mike's deep bass, Sean's cracking drums, and Jerry's amazing guitar that pulls at your heartstrings. It's the TOTALITY of the song that makes it so amazing and timeless. It can apply to any situation not just drug abuse. Everyone faces the path of time, and lies, and at some point we all fight our battles alone.❤️

I had to learn to walk again after a traumatic injury. Very active person. Walked dogs everyday. Gym everyday. Twin 4 year olds that I wrestled every night and had to take a shower after putting them to bed. From that, to bed ridden for 5 months. I’ve been listening to AIC since they came out. But didn’t feel this song until I listed to it in bed feeling miserable. The verse “if I can’t be own, I’d feel better dead” hit me so hard. I know exactly how that feels. If I couldn’t walk and interact physically with my children, I honestly didn’t want to be alive. Knowing that, I put everything into recovery. No one knew that in my mind I wanted to be walking or to be dead. Well, I’m walking and playing again. It did work out. As you become set in your ways and what you want out of life, it is almost impossible to be different. Unfortunately that can mean death. I fully get that now.

So weird that I am seeing this comment because I have the exact same experience! I was hit by a car but I was very active, mother of 4. I would listen to this over and over again and I would feel that line so hard. I, too, am walking (I luckily didn't have to relearn) again and almost fully healed with minor back issues left. Glad to hear you made it to the other side.

Growing up in Jersey we only listened to hip-hop. My boy (white) put me up on AIC never knew y'all had so much pain in y'all music going thru the same things we go thru in the inner city, addiction, alcoholism, suicides, poverty and death around the corner. This song brought me to tears when I first heard it. I live in a better neighborhood now and my neighbor played this while cutting his grass. Brought back that feeling!!
