@@tricko2286 idk, I think what we could be seeing is the bubble bursting on the guitar market. The era of rock gods from the 70's and neighboring decades pumped out a lot of demand for aspiring guitar players to go buy a Gibson or a Strat. Big brands now have to deal with smaller but more plentiful boutique guitars that are being developed and supported by their local communities. There are a LOT of "guitar" gods currently playing, but they're not in the same limelight as Eric Clapton, Hendrix and others were. They're people like Mark, Cory Wong, Blake Mills, Julian Lage, and many others who are playing sessions or backing up the big pop acts or just developing their own brand of content since it's a steadier source of income and a more realizable goal than the juvenile idea of being "the greatest guitar player ever". You bump into jazz guitarists for instance, and you'll realize they could care less about big name pedals, amps or guitars. They probably have an affordable hollowbody, 2-3 effects, and a 10-15W amp when they perform at local clubs; and they sound fantastic! On the other hand digital technology has developed software plugins and synthesizers that can make any guitar sound fantastic without having to drop over $700, so long as the guitarist knows what they're doing. Everyone also knows it's way more sensible to have a 20W 1x10 or 1x12 amp that they can use to practice, while also using it for tours by having it mic'd up and sent through the house mix. To others outside the music community, or guitar world more specifically, it does appear like the guitar is being abandoned and forgotten. In fact, I think it's because the average consumer knows that the gear doesn't define their playing, and they're buying more responsibly and putting in the effort to bring out their gear's fullest potential. I imagine it's something that the big brands and distributors are hating about the new mentality of musicians today, since they can't really find new ways to gimmick people into buying more expensive or moot gear anymore.
@tricko2286
@tricko2286 4 жыл бұрын
Diego Ugaz Good points 👍 You don’t see many players wanting Marshall 4 x 12 stacks anymore. There is so much good gear available now (and affordable)... the market seems saturated (guitars last a long time). Wonder how these manufacturers can keep it up.
@ZippyLeroux
@ZippyLeroux 3 жыл бұрын
@@DiegoUgaz That is less a description of the death of electric guitar, so much as it is a description of cultural and market changes. To me death means hard to find a player let alone an actual instrument... Like the lute, the lute is dead with the last minstrel. But my facebook feed is saturated with 9 year olds playing SRV with the prerequisite 'feel' on factory produced fender strats, so... I'm with tricko on this one.

Going on 2 Years, now. What's going on my "Fellow Tone Freaks???" I need answers. Preferentially speaking ASAP, but in no rush... I'd say there'd be "consequences & repercussions," but because of my unhealthy over-worked work schedule I'll bypass the necessity & viscosity of the need that I implied at the beginning of my argument. With that being said, I need answers. But take your time, just don't pussyfoot around... Or else! Or else nothing. I ain't finna gonn' do ishh. Or! Nope. Still ain't finna gonn' do sh*t. I'm too tired. Our Printer at work has been outta commission because some nucklehead FedEX driver allowed some other nuckleheaded-nucklehead sign for a package that we've been requesting for almost 2 weeks now. Because of said stupid series of events, I had to call 6 times to figure out what happened. I'm not going to mention the company that services our Printer, but it's been nothing but annoying trying to get packets printed. The amount of paper that we print is mind-blowing from a Sustainability POV. With all that being said, I have to walk 5 minutes to the next available machine only for it to take up to 15 minutes to print a couple days worth of documents. Mind you, I have to manually collate the paperwork because of the way the machine is configured. With ALL OF THAT BEING SAID, I am off tomorrow... I'll have the struggle in queue when I get back to work. Mind you, my off-days are split. I know what you are all thinking (if you made it this far), "I don't care..." Neither do I. Neither do I. On a side note. Why is it pronounced Data, instead of Data??? That's been bugging me for at least 5.125 years. I think. Good Night. God Speed. Stay Safe. Don't take Wooden Nickles from Strangers. Brush your Teeth often. Smoke Brisket, Not METH... ¡Adios, Pendejos!

Hey Mark thanks for doing the video, this song rules! Ive fell in love with the Supro tone but I'm on the fence on which I want to shell out for-- Statesman, Black Magic, Dual Tone, or the Coronado. I sing and play in a band that is similar to Rival Sons, but I also would use the amp for a cover band that does stuff like Zeppelin, Allman Brothers, Aerosmith, Montrose, The Rolling Stones, and Zz Top. In your opinion do you think the Statesman can cover all that cover territory but still do the modern rock crunch of like Rival Sons, etc? I'm guessing so after hearing your song but I thought I would beg your opinion. Thanks man!
