I check in on the SBTB reddit and that's the general consensus. I saw the trailers and like the OG cast but all the kids felt so fake, like they used all the budget for everything else and hired a bunch of pretty 20 somethings to play teenagers off the street.

The reboot failed was they concentrated on a new cast while the original was playing secondary. If they would have done the reverse and concentrated on the original cast and put the kids secondary so all the fans could have enjoyed the show. When I watched all I waited for was the few minutes of slater or Zack and Kelly. All the reboots fail because they make the original cast secondary to the new generation.

The reason why cobra kai was so successful is because the old characters are the foundation and continue to develop they bring in the new characters but arent overshadowed or replaced by them. Saved by the bell, fuller house and girl meets world all failed to do that

Agreed! The focus of the show was always Daniel and Johnny at the end of the day. Fuller house was fine IMO because if the 3 guys were main characters, it would just be the original show again. What was terrible for me were the youngest kid and Kimmy's husband. They felt straight out of a disney tween show...beyond annoying and overthetop. Girl meets world kind of the same thing. It wasn't a reboot. It was specifically a show about the daughter. SBTB reboot failed because they completely changed the feel of the show. Fuller House and Girl Meets world felt like the OG shows. SBTB felt like a completely different universe. I get them wanting to do a movie style single camera show instead of a 3 camera sitcom, but the focus should have been on the OG cast with the kids being there as support characters.

I was really excited about the Saved by the Bell re-boot, especially considering it had some of the original cast members involved. When I found out that Lark Vorhees and Dustin Diamond were initially shunned from the show (at first), it was disappointing. Dennis Haskins not having any part in the show was disappointing too. Tuning into the 1st episode and seeing that the show was going to be based on the plight of low income minorities being sent to the big bad affluent white school, I knew that it would be trash, and it was. They could have done a much better job with a re-boot.

It would have been more expensive for a three-camera sitcom format, especially to be released on a brand new streaming app. Plus, teenagers consume streaming more than anyone. Saved By The Bell was always a younger-oriented brand and they wanted modern teenagers to watch it. That’s always the audience that is most desired for television and especially streaming apps. It wouldn’t have had enough of a bigger audience with just the original cast, plus it would have been stupid and depressing having a series centered on high school teenagers all get together as middle-aged adults. They wanted to go for the biggest audience by appealing to both modern teenagers and the original fans. Cobra Kai only got made in the first place because it was KZbin’s first attempt at a scripted series funded by a subscription tier. It was pretty risky. Though I never watched the second season (aside from clips that are on KZbin), I can see why it got cancelled. It totally SUCKED! I hated all of the new kids. And why was the main new GIRL the one who did "time outs" instead of Zack's son? Not to mention, this new girl talks so darn fast that I can't understand her sometimes. This reboot failed BIG TIME. The only good parts were the parts with the original cast.

It's a shame because it's the only reboot show that I actually liked. They made fun of themselves while also taking it somewhat seriously. Better than just rehashing the original with original cast cameos like all the others. It was a genuinely funny show.

The Peacock reboot definitely aimed at an older teenage audience than the original series, as well as older fans and those are two very different demographics. It was definitely trying to be edgier than the original series was.

The reboot was horrendous. There's no *one* reason why, either. First, let's get the wokeness factor out of the way. Yes, I said the 'W' word. Deal with it. I don't care if you're offended by it. In fact, I hope you are. Your salty tears provide my sustenance, so please, be offended, and cry about it. Anyway, the wokeness of this series was so over the top, that it makes "Glee" look like a goddamn Klan meeting. Next, the series was so tonally inconsistent, that it never got around to deciding if it was a drama, a comedy, or an SNL spoof, when it should've solely been a comedy. Unfortunately, the tone of the original SBTB was a product of its time (late 80's/early 90's) and I'm not sure it even could be recreated. Finally, the main draw of this series for most people was supposed to be the original cast, whose appearances were too few and far between, and whenever they did show up, it felt like they were doing some kind of meta-parody of themselves, and they were all written like complete idiots. The new principal was an insufferable jackass, and, where the hell was Mr. Belding? Take a lesson from Cobra Kai, the MOST successful revival series, ever. Balance. Cobra Kai manages to strike the perfect balance between the old and the new. Even the woke characters actually manage to be interesting. They dedicate plenty of time to the new characters, while still managing to tie EVERYTHING in with the original cast. It's brilliant. Cobra Kai is about legacy. It's (thankfully) about as different from the SBTB reboot as you can get, and that's absolutely a good thing. There's a reason why I'm gonna binge-watch Cobra Kai at least once per year, for the rest of my life, but, I barely made it through a single viewing of the SBTB reboot, and I'll never go anywhere NEAR it again.
