I ran into Dustin at a Milwaukee-area club around 2006. As my entire high school career had been spent with people telling me I looked exactly like him I decided to go up and say hi. The thing I’ll never forget is me mentioning the high school thing to him and him responding, “At least high school ended for you.” The guy clearly never found that emotional balance he needed to move past whatever grievances he had and become a functioning adult. Very, very sad.

@@mr.perksy sometime after the final episode, I read in one of those teeny bopper magazines that production of The College Years was on hiatus due to MPG contracting chicken pox. Looking back, I was too young and naive to understand that that article was BS. On a side note, it’s apparent that the theme song intro was a blatant rip-off of “Beverly Hills, 90210” (everything from the guitar riff to the cast members posing and looking into the camera at their fans), which I didn’t notice until 25 years after The College Years’ demise, when I finally binge watched 90210 [beginning on the day Luke Perry died], as the media coverage of his stint on that show prompted me to see what the fuss was about.

I'll say this - I typically had friends slightly older than I was. Two of my best friends were only one and a half'ish years older. It's not that they wanted to stop talking to me, but there seemed to be this divide that happened right around when I was 14/15. It was depressing because I felt like I lost them. They wanted to do things that I found boring and talk about things that I wasn't interested in. Then, as I got to 16/17, we started to have more in common again. So, I agree with MPG here - 3 years isn't much, but between 13/14 and 16/17, it is light years' difference.

@@Steveman27 Absolutely. I understand the game 100%. At work I set boundaries. I, in a subtle way, show my coworkers that I am there for business and nothing else. Soon as they talk about personal stuff, I either change the subject or walk away to get back to work. At work I am friendly and make a pleasant work environment, but no one at my job knows anything about me other than that I’m all about the company. The reason for this is because people never mature past high-school. They get into their little cliques, talk about mundane things and gossip. They even tell on you. Companies have become woke and anything you say can get you terminated. I see people hook up with eachother on the job and it is always bad lol. So, yes, I do not look at work as my real life, it is just part of it. It is what I do to make a living because we all must make a living. But, no, I do not consider anyone there a friend. We are all gladiators playing the elimination game. Let the best one win and let the games begin.

He pimped Lisa out and sold her lingerie as well as promised kisses and gropes to male students without her permission. He used a teen mental health help line to get girls. He manipulated his parents, his friends, his school and was a sociopathic Narcissist. Zack was NEVER a bad character? Being a handsome blond white boy had weight in the 80s. But it hasn't held up. She was never allowed to have a boyfriend, despite one episode with Zack, even though she was dating Mark Paul offscreen during the show. Have a gorgeous, popular teen girl who NEVER dates and she becomes irrelevant, left to shop and look pretty. This was a show from a different time, and I do have nostalgia for Zack and the whole thing. But it doesn't hold up. This is why the College years didn't work. By the mid 90s, the audience recognized Zack as the unlikeable douchebag he was. His pranks were not cute mischief like Dennis the Menace, he was truly a miserable character. If you really wanted to be like him and find him likeable, it says something about you.

Screech in a way was like a little brother to the cast! And i know the differences that can come about it! Ive had older brothers and sisters! Screech had a powerful Role on that show! It's pretty inspirational not easy to play that character especially how he sounded when he spoke on saved by the bell that seems he really put him self out there in a interesting Comedic way and seems a very hard working manner of being the class clown! The whole cast did a amazing Job on that show!

If you watch that Lifetime movie about Saved by the Bell based on Dustin's book it sounds like they were bitter enemies from Dustin's side of things. I think a lot of it was that Diamond felt left out of things because of the age gap and from the sounds of it really didn't have a lot of friends his own age to hang around with. But at least it sounds like they were cool at the end.

Its interesting hearing him say this because for a while growing up i had an older kid that i would hang out with a bit. He lived across the street and down a house or two. But i think back to the times when he gave me a ride to the Jr. High and when he already had his license and was at the Sr. High. It didn't happen all the time, but it happened enough for me to remember it and he had his older friends in the car too. Just like he said in this interview age gaps at that age are really a divider so at the time i was enjoying getting a ride and hanging out with older kids but for a while now i have thought of just how nice that was on my friend's part that he did that he did that for me. Age is weird like that. Like 23 to 26 doesn’t really seem that big of a deal. But 13 to 16 is like across the globe distance. I was 15 when I started talking to my high school gf who was 14. I turned 16 before she turned 15 and so for those few months I was extremely self conscious 😂

*I get* MPG is just someone who doesn't want the blame landing on him, tbh. I get the feeling he just doesn't want to revisit the past. Especially if he knows that he was truly in the wrong for “this or that,” with Dustin. It's the biggest reason why i no longer have fond feelings for that show-even though i grew up with it. Child stars suffered a lot. And not just from the adults (in the business) around them; but also from their own parents (some who were pushing them into the business, whether they actually wanted to be involved or not) and family members. Imagine what this kid Dustin suffered, especially considering he likely had no real friends to turn to, yet the other actors could all turn to each other to commiserate?! Regardless of them being teenagers at the time? We all as adults KNOW just how impressionable kids are during their teenage years. EVERYTHING big or small would've meant something, and/or affected Dustin in “some kind of way,” eh? And knowing that; i can understand why things that Mark-Paul or any of the others involved with him *didn't* see as such a big deal WERE a big deal to Dustin! They'd just already moved past that stage in their progression to the adult years; Dustin had not. At least Mario reached out to him towards the end; that was kind of him and reflects deeply to his character. However? To me, especially in this interview? Mark-Paul comes off as someone who just wants to forget anything good or bad about those days (especially bad); and someone who refuses to hold himself accountable for what he was actually a part in, simply because he himself has left that part of his life behind. But him, wanting to move on? That does NOT make him **ANY LESS ACCOUNTABLE** for what he may have played a part in, in the past days of them filming the show. (And his “being a Pisces” doesn't excuse him from a damn thing, nor do any other of his good or bad personality traits. A piss-poor way of making light of his lack of concern to another human being's pain or issues, especially if his own behavior did play some part to that person's responding behaviour, etc. etcetera. Trying to say that “being a Pisces makes him flightly” as justification for why he feels none of this matters is a shitty thing to do, and doesn't excuse him from ANY part he did play in the scheme of things!) FRIGG MPG. He's always come off to me as a self-important, disingenuous BORING hack of an actor. Doesn't mean i hate him or wish him bad. It just means that I'm a Scorpio 🦂...which means that i REALLY don't care about him or his BS lies and fake answers, in regard to the troubles & sad death of someone he DID KNOW (and knew TOO LONG, *not* to KNOW)! #JustSaying

Mark seems very well grounded for a child star. Usually, they grow up with terrible insecurities and a host of issues. I understand exactly what he means about a three-year age gap when you are teenagers. 3 years is a huge difference at that particular time in your life. As for Dustin, I had seen him show up here and there on different reality tv shows and he came across as a person that went out of his way to upset other people around him. I wasn't sure if it was for tv or it was his true personality. Or was he resentful and lashing out on others for having to spend his childhood the way he did? Sort of like Gary Coleman, a fine young actor but seemed quite bitter later on. Odd that they both ended up passing so young. Well, they left a legacy, and I am glad Mark is doing well.

As a true, diehard fan growing up of Saved By The Bell, Dustin Diamond’s book “Behind The Bell” is fascinating. Though embellished, it’s an excellent read and shines light on the behind the scenes process. Highly recommended if you’re a fan.

When I hear people use astrology I feel people use their as a defense mechanism I guess criticism and not to take any kind of accountability for how the way they treat people and I feel like that's what Paul is doing here in this interview Paul and the rest of them know they treated him like crap despite what he has done he still didn't deserve to be treated the way he was treated I feel like Paul is just making excuses here and not taking any kind of accountability for how the way he treated the guy

I love him being honest. He was far younger than them and they were teenagers & dating costar. It doesn't mean they were cruel to him in any way. What Dustin did later was cruel & I don't blame anyone for not being close but none of them has ever said bad about him.

@@fletchbundy , I think he only said it wasn’t true because the other cast members came out and said it wasn’t true and everyone believed them, as if for some reason people don’t think wouldn’t lie. Yea, if someone wrote a book and cast me in a negative light, I would probably say it wasn’t true either, even if it was. I guarantee that 85 % of what was in that book was true, the other cast members just didn’t want to admit it

To his point, he’s right for the majority of people, but, you could’ve tried to make an effort as I did. I had friends my age and friends 3 and 4 years younger when in high school. It CAN be done and I think him and the rest could’ve made more effort.
