I believe this is a true love song to the fans. He's describing being at a metallica show. Outside this venue we're complete strangers but right here tonight, we're connected, we're unified, we're one. We're the Metallica family. Men, women, children.. the young, the old. No matter your race, color or creed... we're together tonight to release our lights of energy and to have a kick ass and memorable time. (I'll be on the field at the Detroit shows and I can't wait to hear this live!)

I totally agree. This is an incredibly positive, hopeful song. Thematically it seems kinda like an AC/DC song. Not in composition or anything, but thematically it reminds me of "Highway to Hell." I'm really jealous you're seeing them on this new tour! I so wanted to go but we couldn't make any of the dates work. You'll have to come back here and tell us how it goes.

I've listened to this a hundred times already. I've seen em live 21 times since 1986. God Bless these Boyz. "Never more alive than right here tonight" is as poetic as it gets. Keep up the good work. Nice review

Thanks man! I haven't seen them live nearly as many times as you, so I'm glad this one worked for a super-fan like you! And hell yeah. I love the poetry of this tune. It's super hopeful. Makes me feel like maybe Het is in a really good place in his life. I sure hope that's the case. He deserves some peace. And we have an entire Metallica playlist if you wanna check some of our other stuff out: kzbin.info/aero/PL6kwOcqXuEnUCNXy4cwSq0fp1ZeB3EUQ3 And if you haven't already, please hit that subscribe button and hang out with us man! And if you've already hit it, we really appreciate it.

Maybe not a surprise that he’s singing about breaking out of darkness given what he’s been saying about depression in concerts. Music is both diagnostic and curative for me. If my depression is creeping back, I don’t feel certain songs. Then, I go to some songs or artists (or reactors) for comfort and inspiration.

BTW, according to Andrew Rooney Drums channel, this is Lars at his best in serving the song and not his ego (he says it better).

"Maybe not a surprise that he’s singing about breaking out of darkness given what he’s been saying about depression in concerts" Yeah, I totally agree. I've seen a number of interviews with Het where he essentially says that a lot of his early lyrics were him trying to find a way to deal with emotions that he didn't have the tools to deal with, and as he got older and actually started going to therapy, he realized what he'd been doing. I'm kinda like you in that some of his more recent comments coupled with these lyrics really points to a Het that starting to finally get to a healthy place in dealing with things. Or at least that's what I hope anyway. And this is kind of an aside, but I interviewed Ian Moore who's kind of legendary in Austin music (in the 90s all the trades were calling him the next Stevie Ray Vaughn and it kinda freaked him out). In the interview Ian talks about how music is a form of therapy for musicians, which is one of the reasons so many musicians fell apart during the pandemic--their ad hoc form of self therapy had disappeared. It's a cool interview, so let me know what you think once you see it. It air on Austin music TV this week and I'll also post it here next week.

"this is Lars at his best in serving the song and not his ego " Ha. I can see that. I love to bust Lars's balls. I love to hate him. He's kind of like a bad guy in the WWE. It's fun to booo him.

@@LikeMindedLunatics you would enjoy Andrew’s commentary then. As a working drummer and drum teacher, he busts the balls of drum snobs. I kinda think he hit on the Motörhead thing too.

@@LikeMindedLunatics I look forward to the interview. I was huge into SRV - the first artist I cried over. Saw him twice (living in PA and VA reduced opportunity). As heretical as this sounds, his singing is a part of that.

Great reaction and breakdown. Take the energy and exuberance of Kill Em All and infuse it with 40 years of experience and you get this awesome song.

I'm glad you liked our reaction! I totally agree. I think this album is one of my favorites for a lot of reasons, but mostly what you said. It's got some great riffs and killer tunes, but this is probably the most mature and maybe healthy lyrics Hetfield has ever written. Just as an aside, one of our member is also named Ladi! We have an entire playlist where I try to teach him about rock music, and it's called "Ladi's Rockucation!" It would be cool if another Ladi checked it out! I hope you're subbed to the channel! Clip in the style of visualizations of the Winamp player. Great styling. The guys and their team did a great job. Returned to my 2000s. 37 years of my life have not been in vain, thanks to Metallica. From Russia with love))) And thank you for your reaction)))

I LOVED winamp! God that player was awesome. No bloat just music. We have a TV show on Austin Music TV, and when we were designing our intro, the first thing I said it "I want a visualization like winamp used to have playing behind the text." I was so happy when I saw it for the first time. "The guys and their team did a great job. Returned to my 2000s. 37 years of my life have not been in vain, thanks to Metallica" I totally agree. This feels both like a throwback song but it has a wisdom to it that none of their other songs have had. I love it so much. We actually have an entire playlist of Metallica related content if you want to check it out: kzbin.info/aero/PL6kwOcqXuEnUCNXy4cwSq0fp1ZeB3EUQ3 And I hope you've hit the subscribe button and plan on sticking around!

I like this song a lot! I blast it loud in my car! I love it! I also heard them doing it live in LA here on youtube..hmmm. not so much, it doesn't sound as strong and the vocal is weak. I hope they get better with time. Great song though!
