It’s about Tatiana’s introverted nature and procrastination when writing lyrics (the red box) and the rest of the band is hounding her for them. She feels pressured and just gives in to the black wolf. Finally she realizes that the only way to get them to leave her alone is to write (sand) which she throws at the guys and they disappear. Then she’s back to being somewhat balanced. Generally lol

That's a great interpretation. One of the things I love about their lyrics is the ambiguity to them. I really think one of the hallmarks of high art is ambiguity of meaning. And by that I mean, when lyrics are well-written, the artist might have been inspired by something very specific, but the audience might find meaning in the art the artist never foresaw. And I feel like most of Jinjer's lyrics are like that.

@@LikeMindedLunatics I also really enjoy that! I think it’s the hardest yet best way to write a song. To tell their story while still making it like a choose-your-own-adventure for the listener lol The Weeknd (who also has incredible videos and production *cough* In Your Eyes *cough*) is really good at doing that in his music as well. 🖤

Originally the song was called "Introvert" but Tati wasn't a fan of such a clinical name. Then someone told her that there was an English word "wallflower" which means the same thing. She liked that a lot more. Looks like someone already commented that the song on the surface is about the band pressuring her to write lyrics but she is an introvert. When you see her on stage you would never know but then when I played music I was very much the same way. In person she is very quiet and withdrawn so much of the lyrics are about being an introvert in general. From the perspective of someone who played in bands for many years including on the road, frankly Jinjer wouldn't be able to tour like they do if Tati and to an extent Roman and Vlad weren't all somewhat quiet individuals. Especially Tati. There's no rock star "I am the band" mentality from her, or Roman which is one of the major drama generators for bands who spend that much time with each other. They tour sometimes more than a year at a time which is insane. No way that works unless all of them are Wallflowers to one extent or another with Eugene the jolly green giant happy go lucky bass player mixed in there.

"Then someone told her that there was an English word "wallflower" which means the same thing. She liked that a lot more. " Ah, that's really interesting! Thanks for letting us know. "When you see her on stage you would never know but then when I played music I was very much the same way. In person she is very quiet and withdrawn so much of the lyrics are about being an introvert in general." I've found that to be exceedingly common. We recently interviewed Witch of the Vale from Scotland, and the lead singer, Erin, says she's so shy that she originally didn't want to perform on stage at all. Eventually she started to and is amazing at it, but when they first started she didn't want to be on stage. You might like that interview. You can check it out here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJK6c3erpc9jsKc And here's us talking about their video for their song and video "Love of A Father" kzbin.info/www/bejne/j16wd2eGptWce9E

In the video, there's a direct correlation to the pressure she felt for procrastinating lyric writing for the album to the last second. Her bandmates pursue her, pressure her. The bullets (sharp words) at them do nothing, but then she sees the wolves on the wall, realizes her defensive anger and her over-reaction in a situation she created ("turning mole hills into mountains"), and throws "her art" (metaphor for the lyrics they want) at the band and they go away. The wolf story (below) is critical to understanding her internal conflicts as displayed by the wolf art. White Wolf, Black Wolf: A Cherokee Story Inside you lives a wolf of white- of patience, peace and love. He is forgiveness, hope and light; a blessing from above. This wolf of white the world will see through all the good he brings to thee. _____This wolf of white, _____this wolf of white, his gifts will set your spirit free. A wolf of black, as dark as night lives next to him inside. He’s hatred, rage, cruelty, fright, intolerance and pride. This wolf of black the world will see through evil actions, evil deeds. _____This wolf of black, _____this wolf of black, his teeth will make your spirit bleed. Within your soul, the two wolves fight to see which one will give directions and will win the right to show you how to live. Which one will win the fight? We need to pay attention; pay close heed! _____Which one will win? _____Which one will win depends upon which one we feed.

Absolutely brilliant video, probably the best from the album. Also probably my favorite song from the album. I guess it's because it's subtle like I Speak Astronomy. As Mr Roosevelt said speak softly but carry a big stick. Great reaction!

"The power of the font"....I nearly fell off my chair! Jinjer has a lot of great in various styles, but this is one of my favorites (along with the video). The groove that Eugene and Vlad create is very cool, Tatiana sounds beautiful and I love how the sound/feel of the song slowly changes and increases in intensity (also demonstrated in the video) from the softer beginning, with a jazz influence to the beautiful chord changes and melody line, to the heavy and intense ending. BTW, I just saw Jinjer perform live at the House of Blues in Boston last month and they rocked the place!

I think you guys should start rewinding the video by just a few seconds each time you pause so you won't potentially miss anything at and just before the pause, like the very cool break in the music for a couple beats with a nice subtle cymbal fill by Vlad which happened right when you paused the video in the softer beginning section (you also missed another little cool transition during a later pause).

FYI...Tatiana has said that the lyrics are about being an introvert and the difficulty of having a very public job that requires her to be an extrovert, along with the pressure she feels from the band members to complete the lyrics after the band has finished the music during the recording of an album because she waits until the last minute due to being a procrastinator.

Something I really don't see people touch on when it comes to the lyrics... In the ending where she says, "I never asked to be here, I hated that from the beginning" ... She did not join the band Jinjer because she applied for the job and got it. She was asked to join the band because she was the one person the members at the time knew could do what they needed to for the band. Tatiana was and still is very much a bit of an unwilling participant so to speak in the role that she is in artistically and I think that it bothers her. She feels like she was thrust into a job that she didn't really ask for, but also feels that her feeling unsure about it for this whole time is making a big deal over something that to an outside observer doesn't seem like much of a big deal at all.

I can't really comment on that part. I like Jinjer's music, but I'm not a big enough fan that I know their backstory beyond just the surface level stuff. But what I can say as this. Part of the reason I've really loved the music of theirs that I've heard is the ambiguity in their lyrics. People always try to tell me in the comments that in my interpretation I "get it wrong" because Tatiana and the band "meant" the lyrics to mean x, y, and z. But in my head, the lyrics are great BECAUSE they're written with enough ambiguity in them that they can be interpreted multiple way. To me, that's the sign of high art. Ambiguity in meaning. The other example I have of that is AC/DC's "Highway to Hell." Bon Scott wrote that song about a specific road in Australia that went to Perth where they frequently played gigs. But the lyrics are so beautifully written that the song isn't just "about" that road. It seems more about the power of finding your friends and sticking with them. So I get that there is a real-world inspiration for a lot of their lyrics, but writing poetry/lyrics that are inextricably tied to real-world events is easy, and also extremely limiting. But Tatiana's lyrics transcend that limitation. They're beautiful and well-written enough that even though I don't know that backstory, I can also find meaning in them. That's high art, I think.

This song and video are available to you to watch without commentary. If that's what you want, then we encourage you do watch/listen to those videos instead. This is a reaction video, so we react. We do so frequently for two reasons: 1. If we get a copyright hold and we have to dispute it, we have to legitimately meet the three criteria for fair use. One of those criteria is "add frequently commentary" and the other is "transform the intellectual property." By stopping frequently for discussion, we satisfy those two criteria. 2. We don't like reactions where some watches and entire video and says "that was GREAT! Let me know what you want me to watch in the future! Like and subscribe!" We find those kinds of reactions boring and lazy. So we create reactions we want to see. And Ricky is a musician, too. He has multiple degrees in music and has taught at the collegiate level for decades, so not all musicians agree with you. We create content we want to see. We hope you like it and stick around. If you don't, we hope you find another channel that creates content you like and support them, but regardless, try to put positivity into the world.

@@LikeMindedLunatics we all understand all that, it’s called constructive criticism. There was a break in this song that most people catch that you didn’t even hear because you didn’t respond to it at all and compositionally it’s very clever. A lot of us as musicians love that type of interaction. What I’m saying I actually amounts to nothing, I’m just saying “you butchered this song“. I will continue to always listen to you, I’m just saying 😂😇

If I’m honest, I was a little sad that you didn’t get to fully experience that tasty cymbal roll during the first pre-chorus. We absolutely want to hear your comments! Just maybe go back five seconds when you pause so you don’t miss something. With all the respect 🖤

That's fair. I get excited sometimes and don't go back when I should. But we get a handful of comments from folks who really just want to hear the entire song and for someone to say "THAT WAS GREAT!" and that's just not what we're interested in. We view music videos because we think the video is kind of an ignored art form. So while we're for sure interested in the music, we're just as interested in what the video brings to the table as well, and sometimes I get caught up in that narrative and want to see what's next.
