@blackdandelion5549Ай бұрын
I want o say I have not seen the show, but I am sadly well educated in childhood sexual crimes and depending on the age an adult started violating a child, the child can have very unhealthy boundaries with siblings and peers. I cared for two girls and the fatherly type of SA started at age 7 and the girls were within two years age of each other. . . . .they had to be placed in sperate bedrooms because one sibling tried to crawl on top of the other naked. They are simply repeating what they saw a parent doing and are sometimes even told told that is what "Love" is. They were just "loving" their sister the way they had seen it done before. . . . . The same thing can happen to either gender and it's simply copied behaviors, unhealthy boundaries or the fact the children never learned or were allowed to have healthy boundaries, and it may be how they believe they are loving or connected with one another. Then the parent may get angry and not even realize that they are the actual cause for it in the first place. In CPS work the amount of times where the parent lacks the ability to see how their own actions influenced the child and the child is blamed is . . . . .astonishing and common. I don't know how it is depicted in the show, but it is not out of the question for any child who was harmed by their parent in such a way.

Fun fact, cops have no legal duty to protect you. Not only have they argued that they're so stupid that you actively need to state you are invocking you're right to stay silent, but they've argued they're so stupid that if you said something like "I want a lawyer, dog", then they can refuse to get you a lawyer, because how are they supposed to know you wanted a lawyer and not a K9 that's a lawyer (yes, this was a real case (edit: That the police won, using said argument)). People like to say they know their rights, but police have been slowly chipping away at them for years and years by declaring their stupidity as an excuse to abuse their power. Police *are not* your friends in any way. Also fun fact, the MSM(not talking about Phil here)worships cop boot`s. They will never will never discuss civil forfeiture, prison industrial, failed drug war, civil rights being all but rescinded, they work for the police. Delivering their daily narratives verbatim. It`s why cops refuse to work with anyone who isn`t part of a major, oligarch backed, media foundation. Media`s entire revenue is made up of fear mongering, so it`s a symbiotic relationship. Why am I mentioning this? Because if I hear one more person claim mEdIa hATes tHe pOlICe I`m putting my head through a table. Yeah, they cover one story a year, when it`s too big to ignore, and they use the story to make protestors look like violent thugs. Those poor, poor murderers get thrown under the bus, with only the entire arm of the very state itself to vehemently defend them and work to undo any repercussions for murder on every level.... how will they get by with Don Lemon suggesting one of their murders might not be cool, once a year?

I don't have a problem with them being pedantic enough to go "You're asking for a lawyer dog, we can't provide a K9 that has passed the bar.". It sounds stupid but means that there's no interpretation that can be screwed up. What I _do_ have a problem with is the basic rights that we all have, are not default. We don't have them offering for us to call our lawyers or for them to provide one before we talk to them. They are part of the legal system, they need to at least have the same standards that everyone else who needs to make arguments and decisions about legality has as a requirement. Frankly they probably should have more knowledge then lawyers since they're the initial point of contact for most legal issues.

@allekatrase3751Ай бұрын
Not exactly. They wouldn't need to actually have evidence or plant a weapon on you and they'd more likely say you intended to use the money to buy drugs. You'd likely have your charges dismissed or not be charged at all really. The money would be charged separately from you and proving the innocence of the money can be significantly harder than proving your own innocence because the money doesn't have rights and goes through a different process.
@Masterom2000xАй бұрын
It's even easier. They ask for some sort of receipt for the money, and if you produce one, they will confiscate the money and you now have to prove it's not for drugs. I didn't have social media, chat rooms, know anyone with an ED or even have a scale to weigh myself on, but that information glued itself to my brain and I started looking at young women and girls and wishing I could be stick thin too (I was normal weight, just not Twiggy thin). TV and magazine ads were enough to cement that feeling. Parents ultimately have to control content and educate, but social media doesn't do them any favors. They either ignore issues or instaBAN making the content even more desirable. How can you raise healthy and well adjusted kids when corporations make money off their misery and dysfunction?

It happened, you just weren't aware of it. Which is fine, society as a whole wasn't yet. Just like your generation has just as many people with autism and adhd and stuff. Just wasn't diagnosed yet. They were the weird kids. The kid was anorexia probably was the girl that simply was "never hungry" or maybe they said they were going to smoke and promoted it as a life hack. The 60s was full of disordered eating from those magazines. Like lately the "wine diet" out of a 60s magazine popped up. Huge calorie deficit. Just eating a couple of eggs and a bottle of wine a day. You're too drunk to realise the hunger.

Well, in this case it definitely is, it is a sound tactic when dealing with a hybrid threat, like the russians and chinese like to do, forcing them to make obvious decisions about wether or not they HAVE to take this bit of land, or keep interfering with this or that institution’s operations through whatever means, or sending saboteurs to target facilities, by dispatching divisions of troops to deal with squads, or sending two dozen fighters to intercept one. At least it worked until February 2022, that is. For Israel, it is obviously the wrong choice; the primary threat isn’t hybrid in nature, it is asymmetric; this may seem like synonyms, but they aren’t. Hybrid warfare is a state doing shady stuff just short of being a blatant act of war, that can be explained away as misunderstandings or unit incompetence when challenged, but achieve a goal of military relevance if not; Asymmetric Warfare is guerrilla fighting, or terrorist fighting, rebellions and resistances often also apply, although here the conflict is blurring the lines to a symmetrical fight (conventional warfare).

That death penalty case is an example of why I'm convinced there is no situation where an argument justifying the death penalty can exist. It's the one punishment that can't be reverse. So, if there's anything sure of 100% certainty, it shouldn't be on the table. No matter how heinous the alleged crime, any non-zero chance of error in the system should be unacceptable when it comes to irrevocable punishments, since no number of justified uses outweighs a single misapplication of such a sentence.
@TheMikernetАй бұрын
While I generally agree, "no situation" isn't really true IMO. There are plenty of cases where it is 100% sure, i.e. mass shooters caught on scene after exchanging gunfire with cops, cases where clear video evidence exists, etc. I'm a bit torn on the death penalty in any case, but there are definitely some cases where I certainly wouldn't cry about it being handed down.
@AstromechyАй бұрын
@@TheMikernet I think that is the point OP was trying to make. There are most likely cases that have gone before the courts where it was undeniably a 100% certainty of an accused being responsible, with concrete evidence, no shadow of a doubt at all, etc. But there isn't a justice system in the world which is perfect and unblemished. Since there are no "backsies" on an implemented death sentence, as soon as there is even the slightest possibility of innocence, the death penalty shouldn't be considered as a punishment. "Beyond any reasonable doubt" isn't a high enough bar when the consequence of an error in the system is so final. There are no more "appeals" once that person's life has been taken.
@dealbreakercАй бұрын
I've always said that the death penalty is fine but only in a world where we could have 100% confidence that the full, complete, and accurate truth came to light in the original trial and there were absolutely no procedural issues. But we know that is not the world we live in and we will never live in that world because people make mistakes (and others intentionally obfuscate the truth). So in the world we live in, I cannot stand for the death penalty.

Civil Asset Forfeiture only acts to legitimise theft. Even if one were to agree with the original principle of the practice, it's been long eroded by police departments using it to furnish themselves at the expense of the communities they are supposed to protect. There is a reasonable need to seize items believed to be used in a crime. But allowing for that process to rely entirely on officer discretion with very little in the way of oversight or recourse was negligent on the part of law makers.
