@iTammy Lol, I like how you pretend to know what I do and don't "do for my country." Unlike our billionaires, I pay my taxes and volunteer with local nonprofits and my neighborhood council. And unlike chuckleheads if your ilk, I actively engage in local and national politics. (Go ahead and check the Google trends for, "what are tariffs." I'm sure glad fine folks like yourself decided to look into that. Too bad it didn't happen until after the election.) Anyway, hope you have a fulfilling day as you waste your time online misrepresenting people and trying to get a rise. Joke's on you though, I called the election correctly months ago and am already dead inside. The country's going down the shitter, but I'll do my best to make sure my tiny corner of it is at least bearable before it gets sucked down the drain. Also, maybe look up the definitions of "complain" and "critique." I know you guys are... sensitive about hearing critiques, but things can't improve if you steadfastly ignore all flaws. I’m in my 50s. I think this is the most dangerous time of my life so far. Yes, people’s living conditions have improved in many ways, but we face many threats that can change that. A record number of people globally have been forced to flee their homes because of conflict, persecution and climate change. We face a real risk of widening wars in Europe and the Middle East. Nuclear arms are a major threat. Democratic norms and human rights are being eroded. Let’s also not forget the major (neglected) crises in Africa and the awful situation in Gaza. And more women are dying in the US because they can’t get the healthcare they need (and who knows what may happen if the polarization intensifies). Then there is the potential downside to unregulated AI. I could go on. I know people like Bill Gates have said our lives are so much better. That doesn’t mean they will keep getting better. There is a lot at stake and very real risks.

Well, you'll be glad then of a new Administration whose stated aims are economic growth and world peace and whose key members are extremely sceptical about Bill Gates and co. (for many reasons, some of which I suspect you are just about to find out). As for women in the USA - this Age is the best Age to be a woman in the USA. Wars in the Middle East and Europe - the new Administration is committed to ending these (not fuelling them with weapons and subverting peace initiatives like the current Administration). Looks like Americans have elected an Administration that is receptive to your concerns ... let's just hope those "Not my President" types don't introduce chaos and mayhem to undermine all that.

Don't forget North Korea where the propaganda machine saturates people's minds so they worship their anointed leader and weep openly when he dies. Vance, the guy now one Big Mac away from the presidency, has already floated the idea of reducing or eliminating the voting power of citizens who don't reproduce... Deny all you will, the Foreword of Project 2025 was written by the same guy who says "a woman's place is in the home." Finally: he literally protested being "fact checked" during the VP debate.

@@meldawilliams1636The deportation of illegal immigrants is not racist Melda. The fact Trump did so well with Hispanic voters shows this. What’s actually racist is the media thinking it would be any different. They don’t separate illegal from legal they just see their race and group them all together. Truth is she didn’t have any points, she told everyone she didn’t see anything wrong with what the Biden administration had done over the last 4 years when people can’t afford to live and when people don’t agree with her they get labelled racist, misogynistic, transphobic and a Nazi. Oh and when she lost they became ‘uneducated’.

@@meldawilliams1636 mass deportation, strong immigration because the previous administration (which Kamala was part of btw) and the economy. @Flopsaurus16 күн бұрын
People would ask her: "How will your presidency be different from Biden's?" And she says, "Well, first off, my name is Kamala, not Joe." Then she waffles around for a bit before saying that Biden did a great job. She lays out nothing specific she would have done differently than him or how she wants to shift the country in a better direction. Her policies were mostly one-off small handouts like tax cuts for new businesses in the first year. That's not a major shift or even an entire policy.

That was an excellent observation! At this time, we get to _know [about]_ far more than we have _experienced,_ so our judgement of how good/bad the state of the world is, can be askew. Through our minds (imagination, feelings), we are attempting to 'live' more than is ours to go through, to anticipate, to deal with. That weight is disproportionate to our real experience of life, and can drag us to a standstill.

I remember one time Noah was asked about his thoughts on Donald Trump's wall and he said something like, what's the big deal, just give the man the border wall rather than inflame the man by obstructing him on it. And at the time I began to think, sure, it's a huge waste of money that could have funded tax cuts for workers for example, but at least it's just an object and I guess would help gain goodwill from Trump. And if the whole idea is crummy, then he owns the mistake in totality. Noah makes you think things a different way, and that's always needed in politics.
