Harris’ message was strong and clear. Most relatable candidate in my lifetime. And I am in my mid 70s. She didn’t do anything wrong. The sad truth is that sexism won this election. I am devastated.

Sexism? From millions of women voters? Strange take, blaming the election on other women being sexist.

It wasn't just sexism. It was racism as well - Harris copped a double-dose. Obama copped a similar thing when he won - the birther movement launched, which led to the Tea Party, which led to Trumpism.

While I don't think the world is improving (depending on the metric, it is actively going down quickly and will, of course, affect poorer nations and communities first and hardest, sooo...), I still appreciate Trevor's overall message and vibe. I do miss his hosting of The Daily Show, but I hope he's enjoying himself. Also, I am happy I got to witness an Australian news anchor exclaim, "Let's get this guy a jacked marsupial!" @Prizzlesticks2 ай бұрын
@iTammy Lol, I like how you pretend to know what I do and don't "do for my country." Unlike our billionaires, I pay my taxes and volunteer with local nonprofits and my neighborhood council. And unlike chuckleheads if your ilk, I actively engage in local and national politics. (Go ahead and check the Google trends for, "what are tariffs." I'm sure glad fine folks like yourself decided to look into that. Too bad it didn't happen until after the election.) Anyway, hope you have a fulfilling day as you waste your time online misrepresenting people and trying to get a rise. Joke's on you though, I called the election correctly months ago and am already dead inside. The country's going down the shitter, but I'll do my best to make sure my tiny corner of it is at least bearable before it gets sucked down the drain. Also, maybe look up the definitions of "complain" and "critique." I know you guys are... sensitive about hearing critiques, but things can't improve if you steadfastly ignore all flaws. It's hard, but I'm sure you can toughen up and learn to take it. :)

I’m in my 50s. I think this is the most dangerous time of my life so far. Yes, people’s living conditions have improved in many ways, but we face many threats that can change that. A record number of people globally have been forced to flee their homes because of conflict, persecution and climate change. We face a real risk of widening wars in Europe and the Middle East. Nuclear arms are a major threat. Democratic norms and human rights are being eroded. Let’s also not forget the major (neglected) crises in Africa and the awful situation in Gaza. And more women are dying in the US because they can’t get the healthcare they need (and who knows what may happen if the polarization intensifies). Then there is the potential downside to unregulated AI. I could go on. I know people like Bill Gates have said our lives are so much better. That doesn’t mean they will keep getting better. There is a lot at stake and very real risks.

Well, you'll be glad then of a new Administration whose stated aims are economic growth and world peace and whose key members are extremely sceptical about Bill Gates and co. (for many reasons, some of which I suspect you are just about to find out). As for women in the USA - this Age is the best Age to be a woman in the USA. Wars in the Middle East and Europe - the new Administration is committed to ending these (not fuelling them with weapons and subverting peace initiatives like the current Administration). Looks like Americans have elected an Administration that is receptive to your concerns ... let's just hope those "Not my President" types don't introduce chaos and mayhem to undermine all that.

Don't forget North Korea where the propaganda machine saturates people's minds so they worship their anointed leader and weep openly when he dies. Vance, the guy now one Big Mac away from the presidency, has already floated the idea of reducing or eliminating the voting power of citizens who don't reproduce... Deny all you will, the Foreword of Project 2025 was written by the same guy who says "a woman's place is in the home." Finally: he literally protested being "fact checked" during the VP debate.

When I was in 8th grade I began asking questions my history teacher was not allowed to answer in public school. So I started reading the black brittanica. I was puzzled at 14 years old that the school needed us to believe the civil war was not about slavery. It wasn’t until I started taking africana studies in college until a professor affirmed what I had known for years, I was right. I’m African American 42 years old. I hold 3 degrees, the last one is a masters in social work. I left the states in August anticipating the election would go this way. I’m not spending the next 42 years fighting for basic human rights from a country I help build and make rich. All of the 70 million who voted for democracy should leave too. Other first world nations don’t treat their citizens this way. I witnessed that first hand while serving in Europe in the Air Force.

That was an excellent observation! At this time, we get to _know [about]_ far more than we have _experienced,_ so our judgement of how good/bad the state of the world is, can be askew. Through our minds (imagination, feelings), we are attempting to 'live' more than is ours to go through, to anticipate, to deal with. That weight is disproportionate to our real experience of life, and can drag us to a standstill.
