Ahhhh…. 🖤 Mark Romanek makes total masterpieces of music videos. I do feel the atmosphere in Perfect Drug as an ideal Sweet Home scene (dramatic moments as parts of the private Goth show that all the participants enjoy))). Loved this music video and song at first sight - and yes it frightened me first. They say if love doesn’t freak you out a little then it’s not deep enough… lol. I see Edgar Poe’s personal story here and a touch of a Gothic Lolita as well. A taboo topic I know but I’m definitely not “playing lightly” with anything Gothic; it’s resonating with me and that lifelong, well, longing for the beautiful refined existence vs all the crap I dealt with instead. I absolutely adore most of the details of the video. Black veils, blue light, long hair on Trent Reznor, boys clothes on Martha, her character’s immersion in arts and love, and her lover’s unconcealed grief about losing her. I’m appalled that this video wasn’t NIN’s favorite yet I dig the pressure of a hurry :( It’s not the first time when I love something that the creators weren’t sure about. I definitely feel like running away from reality and hiding inside a bubble as strikingly beautiful as this one and never dealing with the world again!! 🖤🏰🖤 And I would love to learn how to create music videos that have a vibe which relates to this… not copying but knowing the tools which allow my own fantasies to not look hopelessly poor-ass DIY. I want a polished professional look on everything; this film director is someone to look up to.

I love NIN and I love Edward Gorey, so knowing that a NIN video (and one of my favourites) was directly influenced by him makes me very happy.

@Bearwolfex Trent has actually stated in the past that this song was one of his least favorite creations due a short production time and this "overblown" video.

He later admitted his real reason for the displeasure with this video, as well as the sound itself, was that he was battling severe addiction and depression at the time. The video is a constant memory to him.
