I still think it's one of the most important scenes talking about homophobia.
@Black_pearl_adrift4 жыл бұрын
I think it's one of the best scenes on compassion. In order to truly feel compassion rather than pity you have to see yourself as similar to another person. You have to be on the same level as them. You have to identify with their pain.
@Nozverah24 жыл бұрын
He's not homophobic, there's no such thing as homophobia unless someone is genuinely terrified of it as if it was a lion charging at him. Simply disagreeing with the behavior & lifestyle is not being fearful or afraid of it. People can do whatever they want regardless of what others think of it. That's what makes America so great.
@Black_pearl_adrift4 жыл бұрын
@@Nozverah2 what? That's such a weird way to use the term and certainly isnt how it's used in the common vernacular. Lemme take a look at it from an entry level linguistics perpective In the case you're explaining you're not describing a phobia a lion charging at you is a life/death situation. A phobia is an irrational fear like a phobia of spiders even if they pose no threat to me. Secondly. That's not the common usage of homophobia even if you were correct. There is no one who is as terrified of a gay person as they might be a charging lion. Using you're definition there would be no one who was a homophobe therefore the word would be useless. Now why would a word exist if it has no usage/application? So even if you were right you'd still be incredibly wrong.
@Nozverah24 жыл бұрын
@@Black_pearl_adrift fine. No one is afraid of homosexuals. Being disgusted by someone's lifestyle or sexual behavior is not the same as irrational fear. There's a rational motivation behind it.

This film was so moving . I cried at every sene just about . I had a uncle who contracted aids through gay sex he lived in London .he came back home to die .i remember my mam crying saying that they put him in two body bags and a lead coffin when he was buried . He died 1989. He was 45 and his name was Rodrick Stephenson. To be treat that way and for the government to tell you because your gay you don't matter it's a crime. Thank god human rights UK protect gay rights . When aids was first on the sene some one who had it you could bet a dog would be cared for and loved in its final moments than a human being with aids . But now there's been marvellous progress in treating this horrible virus . Thankyou for making this film for all the victims of aids and my uncle it touched my heart 🖤 brilliant

- but terrifying to see how little the USA (and the entire world really) did about the AIDS pandemic (since it was first hitting gay men, intravenous drug users and Haitians it apparently wasn't worth doing anything about) - but nothing has changed: look what the republicans did about COVID!

Living through this struggle enveloped the core of our being. Not only were our lives on the line (literally), our lifestyle choices and perceptions of those choices were scrutinized to the point that countless GLBTQ had to slam shut those closet doors that had just begun to crack open. Fear and irrational emotion warps the brain. It continues to this day and I blame the lion's share of these medieval thought processes on religion. Religion poisons everything; always has, always will.
