The Motive was probably one of the most underrated songs of the 80s and this guy was beautiful.

The lost band of the eighties who should have had major success. I cannot help but admire Mark Shaw's refusal to admit defeat in the face of life's slings and arrows. In a parallel and just universe Then Jerico would have been deservedly huge.
@damian-7952 жыл бұрын
Agree, Mark has a damn good voice. I remember them hitting it big with big area around 89 when I was 19 years of age. I recall thinking they were going to be a big band but they seemed to fade away after that.

@@damian-795 I saw them in 2012 on the reunion tour in Liverpool and they were very good. Hard to believe it was ten years ago in a time of relative normality given the chaos of the present and last few years. Mark Shaw still had charisma and his voice. Sugar Box is another great track they released and sounds unique.

Should have done like Abba and retreated to an island to make an album without outside inference. This band should have been huge but maybe the fear of criticism stopped it from forging ahead. What this band had out in 1987 was far better than what U2 or Simple Minds had out at the same time.
@KittyCatFurbabiesMaria19726 жыл бұрын
Davin Gladwell what stopped them was actually Mark went solo
@ForGoodnessSake3G4 жыл бұрын
They were a great band but I wouldn't rate their 87 debut alongside The Joshua Tree and I certainly wouldn't put them alongside Simple Minds who were at the time performing killer shows everywhere they went and 1987's Live In theCity Of Light remains absolutely the greatest pop / rock live album any act to this day has released. It is staggeringly good. I was always told by industry bods that Jerico split essentially because Mark Shaw wanted to go it alone. It didn't work and he then went back rather cap in hand to the band members he ditched to reform. So I heard.

Erm, I bought The Motive when it peaked at #65ish and was really pleased when it was re-issued and made the top twenty back when that mattered (#18, so that was massive) His arrogance about having a couple of minor hits is what grates with me (look at his attitude on the recent "Re-make me in the USA" programme) As I said, you had a hit, worked with people like you and they got over it
