The author of the first lines in the history of MMA and the brutal godfather of ground and pound. A professional wrestler who turned his skills into a devastating weapon and became the first UFC champion and PRIDE Grand Prix winner. You made no mistake. This is Mark "The Hammer" Coleman.
At the peak of his career, this guy inspired fear in everyone who dared to go out with him in the octagon. And he inspired admiration and awe among his fans.
It's time to remember how it was!
Thank you for watching!

These were the last days of American full contact. It was glorious. Every single one of my friends and family loved getting together to see the carnage.

Totally!! I used to get the VHS tape as soon as it was available and then get together with my buddies from the gym and our wives would come too. We would bring in a big smorgasbord of Mexican food from Joe T. Garcia’s in Fort Worth and all eat, drink beer and scream at the screen. There was literally NOTHING like it at the time and we were in awe of these warriors. Everyone would get a good buzz on and we would all say “I can do this too with a little training!” 😂 We were all delusional but it was great to dream and pretend. These guys seemed like they were from another planet and it looked like they were living their dreams. Man, good memories!!

Yes I remember watching the first few on cable. It was truly brutal when those knees to the back of the head were allowed. Half of the current field couldn't cut it.

Mark Coleman is a world class wrestler. His technique and strength were unmatched in his prime. Also when he was an older man. He went to 205 lbs and dominated a prime Stephen Bonner. Lost the first round but the next 2 he took Stephen down and viciously pounded the heck out of him.

Prayers up for Mark 😔❤️🙏🏽 Last night Mark was with his parents at a renovation rental property Hammer (Marks dog) woke him up and the house was on fire The enormity of the blaze had Mark pick his father up and run him out of the house, he returned to get his mother all of her hair burnt off When Mark went back in to get his dog he passed out in the house He was airlifted to the hospital and it doesn’t look good He's dog also unfortunately passed away 😔 such a sad suitation

1. Mark was at his parents' house visiting overnight. 2. His mother still has all of her hair. 3. Mark did not pass out in the house. 4. Little Hammer was eventually found hiding under a bed his life taken by smoke inhalation, not by fire.

The old timers don't get enough respect. They are often dismissed as cavemen who would get destroyed in the fight game today. While that may be true, saying that the godfathers of the sport were lesser fighters is like saying that Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were lousy astronauts. They didn't have the best technology, but they had the courage to shoot themselves up into space holding a calculator and a roll of duck tape, not knowing what lied ahead.

I read courage more respect and astronauts ect for what showing up for a fight full with steroids are you crazy or something. The lacked courage so the cheated in the worst way possible with dier consequences to themselves and others the ufc tolerated it for years and years its a wonder no one died ...I love mma, boxing, muay Thai ect ect but it has to be fair .. in these days it wanst !!!!
