I am smiling while watching, it feels so heavenly to have such a good life in that paradise. and to remember what our life was used to be. but I also feel sad thinking that all that will someday go away too, because of urban development and such. Here where I stay in ph we also eat frog before and whatever we catch/forage all around us but that is no longer possible nowadays with all the dwellings and factories that sprung up over the decades. much of the nature has become toxic due to pollution. we even fear that the rain has become acidic that leaf vegetables growing in the backyard is harmful.

I'm Karen from the Andaman Islands, India, and I want to thank National Geographic for shining a light on our Karen community. Not many people know that a small Karen community has lived in the Andaman Islands for almost a hundred years. Our ancestors migrated here in 1925, and in Feb 25-27 2025, we will proudly celebrate a century of our settlement here. This 100-year Jubilee is a momentous occasion for us, as we’ve preserved our culture, traditions, and values through the generations. I wish National Geographic can document this celebration with us.
