The Bible Project hey I need help just trying to find answers I don't understand anything I'm not saved I want to know Christ and how to have a relationship with him, I just can't understand how people can know God even if they don't see him. literally this is my breaking point because nobody will help because they are too busy with their own lives. is there a way to contact you guys? I refuse to hear anybody but you guys because I just don't know what's true, I just want what's truth

Well, we believe that God exists because of faith and trust in the Bible. One line in a movie I've seen (particularly The Legend of the Gaurdians) says, "Just because you can't see something doesn't mean it isn't real." And being a Christian, I believe that's true. Yes, we cannot see God, but we know that He is always with us. If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask, but I will say that I may not have all the answers.

I never thought about this but it is fascinating that while the Jews expected Messiah to overthrow Rome, it is a Roman centurion who first perceives that Jesus is God's Son. Perhaps Mark is even saying that God is forgiving enemies in the Cross. Reconciliation and the kingdom come through the Cross.

Good point! I never thought of that either.

Steven Strnad I Agree! My pastor just preached a sermon about this. It wasn’t just him it was many of the people you would last expect to realize such a victory. Almost like even the lowest of people and the most disregarded were forgiven and could be saved through the blood he shed that extremely victorious day.

Yes, amazing art...except they insist on making Jesus have long hair, when every clue we have from the Bible & from the culture of that time indicates that Jesus had short hair. The Long ending not being original is definitely debated. There is good reason to believe the last section of Mark is from the original text. 1. It's improbable that a narrative work such as Mark would end with the Greek word γαρ. 2. Often there is an argument that different vocabulary is used at the end of Mark than in the rest of the book but John Broadus in 1869 wrote an article “in which he argued that the twelve verses preceding 16:9-20 displayed a similar number of unique words and phrases”. Lunn lists the seventeen items that are considered to be unique to the long ending and then lists six other passages in Mark that have unique words and phrases. Uniqueness of vocabulary is not a compelling argument to disregard the long ending. 3. It is very unlikely that Mark would not have included the resurrection of Jesus. 4. Finally documentary evidence, Lunn presents quotations from several textual scholars who acknowledge that the vast majority of manuscripts, especially Greek ones, contain the long ending. Among those is a well-known supporter of the short ending, Daniel Wallace, who estimates at least 95 percent all Greek manuscripts and ancient versions contain the long ending. He suggests that the percentage may actually be higher. See also: for quotations by Lunn. The Original Ending of Mark: A New Case for the Authenticity of Mark 16:9-20 by Nicholas P. Lunn

@@spyben3 Yeah, I find it much more satisfying to say that the end may have been added by scribes and may not have. At the end of the day it's healthy to have a certain amount of skepticism towards Biblical skepticism
@spyben34 жыл бұрын
@@jackv5054 Agreed. It's not a hill to die on necessarily, and I personally believe the long ending is original. At the end of the day though it's always better to give both sides of the argument instead of asserting some of my Bible is not in the Bible.

This video is the most thought provoking one made by The Bible Project team. The Gospel of Mark is by far the most simple (not simplistic, as revealed in the video) account of Jesus that retells the story of the crucified King in chronological order and fast paced action, thus making it the most appropriate for historical discussion. Scholars have argued that Matthew, Luke, and John have added theological characteristics on to the Gospel of Mark to make Jesus more like the messianic king for different audiences. What do you guys think? Oh, and have a Merry Christmas and Happy new Year! He is risen.
@LPTV849 жыл бұрын
I personally think agree with you that Mark is one of the best ways to be introduced to Jesus and the situation he faced. It still has theological interpretations to it, and possibly this author went to a reliable source, possibly one of his disciples to give this quick, but thought provoking explanation to who Jesus was and how he is seen by his followers as the prophesied Messiah. I love reading it, even without the added ending because to me while it did end saying the women not telling from pure shock, obviously they eventually had to and did. I mean, I love the other gospels for so much parallels and they come off as if the authors went to several sources to try to help answer questions for certain audiences that Mark's did not address, and to me that doesn't take away the authenticity of Jesus as the Messiah/Christ, who came with a mission by God to guide humanity and save it with Him as the ransom :)

+Jereton Brother, Christmas is not real its not december 25.. it bethlehem it was snowing deep frozen place. At that time Mary were getting their census. The shepherds at that time were guarding their sheep, they wouldn't like sheep froze to death right, then it would be summer that Jesus was born. So it was not december 25 (BIBLE REFERENCELuke 2:1-12) ! In fact Jesus' birth was not mentioned in the Bible
@multuminparvo59 жыл бұрын
+Jereton Christmas is a good time to remember the fruit of the willingness of divine motherhood to invite our divine son, Christ, into the world amidst struggle and suffering. For this, I remain ecstatically hopeful and unwittingly happy to welcome in the fullness of our Savior on a regular basis, often even, or as much as is needed, or as much as helps us remember, even ritualistically, if need be. After all, saving is about meeting needs, not fancy bows and peppermint perks. And that interrupting remembrance of saving grace indeed mounts up over time and above mere paganism into a very candid and even amazing Merry Christmas! :) So yeah, I ditto that, even though I haven't been in position to participate in cultural Christmas or birthdays, etc. for a few years now. I appreciate and share in your significant merriment every day of the year as able. Thanks for keeping the faith and spreading the word.

multuminparvo5 Don't think I agree with 100% of what you said but overall well said!
@multuminparvo59 жыл бұрын
+Ian Swart Thanks, Ian. It's hard for me to relay what I intended. I've been in a strange spot, and what I said probably wouldn't make sense unless I could detail what happened with me and my son recently....It had to do with the part in Mark that deals with the mother with the daughter suffering from demon possession in modern day Tyre, and how our circumstances ultimately melded that with the mother of Jesus, and I hadn't until now seen others linking Mark's version to the Christmas story as outlined in Luke. So it was neat when I saw the two put together. I don't get to fellowship with any Christians--had to play something of a Micah role recently. It takes too long to explain and people don't have time nowadays. But I indeed appreciate you skipping past all that unexplained stuff to pat me on the back. It was/is the most important event in my life, spiritually, and I've never been able to share it with anyone. So thanks for reaching out and showing support :)

@IanSwart9 жыл бұрын
Commandment Keeper In Jeremiah 10:2-6 God specifically speaks to the Israelites, but also to us, through the prophet Jeremiah that we should *not* worship IDOLS like the heathen nations did. You are somewhat quoting out of context here. Before you judge me let me tell you how I celebrate Christ's birth and the salvation He gave us (that's Christmas): First thing in the morning I go to Church, then afterwards we'll have a nice family lunch. I don't own an evergreen tree with colourful decorations or even give out presents.
@IanSwart9 жыл бұрын
+Commandment Keeper Oh thanks. But I don't think we should go around causing strife among fellow believer. God bless.
@IanSwart9 жыл бұрын
+Commandment Keeper Yeah, but Christmas has nothing to do with paganism and it's rituals, Christmas is all about Jesus and the gift of salvation. I agree that the date of Jesus' birth is unknown, but why is that to stop us from celebrating it and the amazing salvation that is in Him. So, yeah, Christmas may be on the same date as an ancient pagan holiday was, but let me tell you they're not the same thing. I worship the living God, and it's definitely not wrong to celebrate our Saviour's birth.

+Commandment Keeper God gave the feasts to point our spiritual fathers toward Christ. They were shadows and He the real thing. The author of Hebrews warns his audience, professing believers who were tempted to go back to the Temple and the Old Covenant shadows, that to go back is to deny that Christ has come. Jesus fulfilled them.

I love how you guys basically just tell the story of Mark (or whatever book of the Bible the video is about); but you tell it in such a detailed way, that I feel like I know more about the book more than I did before.

0:33 Actually Jesus was condemed by the pharisees not the Roman authority . pontius pilate wanted nothing to do with the condemnation of Jesus and he represented the authority or Rome. I wash my hands !

Probably would have been better if he hadn't washed his hands.

Recent circumstances have brought my attention back to Christ more so than ever before previously. Watching these videos and also studying scriptures have a way of opening my eyes at this right time in life. Subtle signs each day are recognized when able to stay on course

0:47 Jesus was killed by the Romans, but even then, the Roman Empire still fell apart years after his death. So, in an indirect way, maybe he did overthrow Rome? That's what I think anyway.

Genesis Rail Rome fell 1400 years after his death or 1800 if you count the Holy Roman Empire

I'm continually flawed by Christianity, the more I look into it. I knew the Bible was ancient but I had no idea just how groundbreaking and eternally relevant it was to us living today. I'm so happy to call myself a Christian. Something I can always turn to. Christ is my anchor.

The Bible Project I have a question what does the bible say about Christians join the military. Is it a sin or does god tells us not to.

verse used by 'child of God' is out of context, and doesn't necessarily mean that military service (since force may sometimes be required in service) is condemned. gotquestions.org/military-Christian.html

Christopher Nam We should not condemn the guiltless of innocent lives lost. A example of my quote would be the crusades which was fighting in the name of Jesus which is a no no.

I am really enjoying these videos. I prefer the art style used for the Torah--with the drawings in a chart-like format, because it helps me remember and I can see the big picture and its parts. This one about Mark is well done and beautiful, but not as helpful to me personally as the Torah ones. Thank you for doing these. Even though I've been a Christian for over half a century and read and studied the bible for years, these videos give me a way to "see" how it all ties together. Keep up the good work!

I think critiquing is fine, but downright criticism of the work of servants committed to extend the breadth of His Kingdom is harsh. Why are christians like these? Where is the love...
