In the book the Art of Living by Lin Yu Tang, it is stated that one must not only work at that which he naturally excels, but to be a better person, one should try and work at that which does not come naturally to him. For me, precision shooting and reloading requires personal consistency, organization, and discipline that does not come naturally to me. In essence, one of the biggest reason I shoot is because it makes me a better human being. And it’s fun!

When I first joined a shooting club in Durban, SA in 1971, one of the old hands showed me his 7mmRM. As a Canadian I absolutely love firearms and do my best to bring new folks to the range every chance possible. Being able to see a person who has never fired a gun in their life hit steel targets at 600 yards on their first shot, or experience the thrill of a semi-auto is extremely rewarding. However, it brings me even more joy when, at the end of the session, they say guns aren't as terrifying as they originally thought. It's good to remind the average Joe and Susie that while firearms are dangerous, they are still a tool and can be extremely fun when used safely. As firearm owners this is how we change the narrative in our favour in an effort to keep our sport alive.

@@theaustralianconundrumAnother fact, is that firearms do not “cause”those deaths. Suicidal people are hurting, not stupid . We (and yes, I’ve considered it) know very well that there are many tools and methods available with which we can take our own lives. Secondly, criminals are evil, not stupid. They know equally well that there are many effective ways in which to harm or kill their victims. No-one is less-dead because the method used was not a firearm. It is no comfort to family of victims that they were not shot.
@Moose_King_05Ай бұрын
@@theaustralianconundrum here's some fun facts, the majority of deaths by firearms are suicide, second is gang violence. 25% of violent crime is located in just 15 counties in the US. All but one is considered a major metropolitan area. Also known as a democrat controlled city. Now, right or left I don't care. But clearly there is underlying issues causing people to resort to violence and local politicians are letting it happen.

Now a retired veteran, i attempt to pass knowledge onto a younger generation. Surely the government can rationalise a specific policy adjustment exempting those who are specialists in the firearm and shooting industries. Wouldn't be too difficult to high level security vet each applicant. I hope common sense prevails. The knowledge attained from 50bmg/338lm etc in theatre is unobtainable through simulation or charts. I've been shooting since age 8. My German and Swiss ancestors built firearms for the Continental Army, and were excellent shots, so it's imprinted in my DNA. I'm not good at sportsball, but I can hit steel at quite a distance. It's just as much sport to ring a target at 1,000 yards as it is to score a goal. The discipline required for long range shooting is an art. Consider wind direction, temperature, humidity, direction, then slowly squeezing the trigger between heartbeats, and being on target is an accomplishment. It doesn't hurt a soul, and it creates a sense of competition and encouragement when shooting with others.

I shoot to enjoy using my dads old rifles (and remember his great tuition) and some newer ones and older than me collectables. I just love the sport.

Firearms are a tool. living in heavily wooded country area, being around firearms my entire life and hunting was the start in my childhood. Then it became a tool for work and a sport. Shoot on a regular basis for skill and accuracy, just as a baseball player would swing at balls or a golfer would swing at golfballs into a hole in the ground. and there is protection, being an outdoors man and adventure seeker.

I’m going to retire in a year or so and I’m just learning ELR Shooting. I enjoy it very much, it is a challenge. It is a hobby that I can do even as I get older.

Wow where do I start. I guess back when I was a kid my old man was a pretty competitive full bore and small bore target shooter and I just followed that then started knocking around with mates that are in to hunting so I got in to that then got in to target air rifle then in to target pistol and now as I've gotten older i got in to black powder muzzle loaders and pack powder hand guns. But that full bore shooting is why I'm attracted to your videos

It's part of human nature. It's deeply ingrained in us to launch projectiles and hit targets. It might have to do with evolution or something. You can see trends in popular pastimes like basketball, baseball, football, rugby, soccer, lacrosse, cricket, tennis, volleyball, badminton, ping pong, billiards, bowling, and darts. They all use projectiles to hit a target. That's part of it for me. I also like the autonomy it brings. I can hunt and defend myself on my own as well.

First off, I am an Airgunner. I enjoy the extreme challenge of doing EXACTLY what rimfire/centerfire marksmen can do. The challenge is doing what they do, but at much lower power levels. Its refreshing when you can go to a match whether its ELR, BR, Silouette, Speed Steel, NLR22 and place well into the Top 3 to Top 5 competitors. I love showing what a good marksman with a very good PCP Rifle system can do.

Why I shoot? Ever since I was a little kid I have always been interested in firearms and shooting, used to watch the cowboy and war movies, I was always more interested in the weapons and how they work more than killing the baddies or an enemy.. I do hunt and enjoy target shooting. I’m not quite as absorbed into it as you are, I buy rather than build things myself, love watching your videos, thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience with us.

I started shooting as a kid for "grocery shopping" with Dad. After my first Buck... and 5 miserable shots later, I made it my mission not to half ass my skill set out of respect for the animals and staying razor sharp. Later on I started hunting Antelope and decided I needed to up _both_ my rifle and long range skills, as with their 8x vision they can spook even out past 500 yards! I started practicing on a 10" gong at 1K-1300 yards and found I was a bit of a natural. It's quite fun and I got bit by the LR bug. I spend way more time reading long range books like Applied Ballistics from Bryan Litz and learning from videos of better shooters like you and Sam than I get to spend at the range, so I can "cheat off your homework"!😁 Thanks guys!

The discipline, I'm not a competitive shooter although I'm competitive against my brothers. Lol. It relaxes me. I grew up hunting and fishing and in my later years I'm not mad deer anymore and really enjoy making tiny holes at 100 yards but reaching out to make tiny groups at a thousand. There's a range in South Louisiana USA that you have 15 shots, 3 minutes, you shoot from 100 200 300 all the way out to a thousand at Clay pigeons. So that's what I'm training for lol. I grew up shooting MOA and just bought my very first mrad scope so this should be fun. Great video once again

Born in West Palm Beach, Florida, USA in 1948. The family would go to a movie theater that had "shorts", news and cartoons before the main movie. The shooting done in those shows was IT! Trick shooting and amazing feats caught me. Told my dad that is what I wanted to do. Just had a need to do things like that. Really did not care who saw it or knew it but I just wanted to do it. ALL parts of it. Love the science of it to boot. Am 76 now and my body is not being nice because I was not very nice to it for too many years but still having fun.

Hello from Colorado! Years ago, when I was much younger, my only interest was in rifles for hunting. Today, my hunting days are over but, considering what is happening with crime and the chaos going on along our southern border, I am now focused on handguns and self-defense. I shoot to be a responsible, safe and trustworthy carrier of firearms for the protection of myself and my family...

I come from a village where hunting was popular, though though I only have hunters in my extended family. I'm also very mechanically minded - and love mechanical stuff - like cars. Being a shooter and gun collector helps me appreciate history, the mechanics of guns and since I started reloading it allows me to be more "part of the action", pun intended. Sometimes I take part in competitions which I enjoy. And, perhaps most of all, shooting has helped me make lots of like-minded friends, some of whom are like brothers to me. So it has a social side as well. Cheers.

I like all the aspects of shooting and firearms. I like to tinker / repair / build /reload and shoot all kinds of calibers. I started when I was younger ( about 7)making a bow from a sapling and arrows from branches with found feathers off the ground. I would have to make a new bow about every 5 days ( it would dry out and splinter) Started doing bow competitions then to archery hunting then teaching others. Got into firearms for hunting. Then morphed into target ( not nearly as long range as you) steel/ tactical and self defense. I even love black powder shooting with both pistols and long guns. I love teaching (on a private level no money involved) new shooters to the sport. I love when you can show a bolt action hunter black powder and the benefits of slowing down. I love showing some one old school an AR pattern rifle or the opposite - a modern shooter an Enfield or an M1 Garand or a lever action. Everyone loves it when my wife and I host the family reunions. I love the evolution / mechanics and the artistry / some firearms are truly breathtaking works of art from around the world. There is so much negativity towards firearms that people forget that they are a tool. Everyone I teach I try and emphasize - "no matter what tool you use , it is the way in which you use that tool that will define not only the tool but you as well. Sorry so long Mark but you asked. Blessing to you all from the U.S.A.

I wasn’t much good at the normal sports at school ie football basketball cricket until one day my uncle took me along to the air rifle club the back of maddington I shot a pretty good group according to him He then took me along to a small bore shoot the back of Cannington/manning Again I loved it shot good groups But he said to me you are not shooting against anybody else each time you come along you are shooting against yourself Only you can get better each time you come out Nobody else but you are squeezing the trigger and lining up the sight And for 40 odd years that has stayed with me I compete against myself And love it

Many reason why. Becoming an equipment junky. It brings a great deal of pleasure. Mainly because I always have. My father introduced firearms to me as a kid.
