Hi everyone. This was by far the largest survey we’ve done and I spent a lot of time editing it down to make it digestible for you. Unlike past surveys, this one had lots of stuff consolidated or edited out to make it as entertaining as possible, including some small parts of the town. The Bureau just wants to ensure you that we did in fact survey the entire town, even if it wasn’t included in the video.

Lynea is a weird character, since she only exists for the Creation Club fishing add-on so the player can go teach her how to fish in exchange for her amulet of Dibella. Her having an amulet of Dibella could imply she's either a member of the local temple or-given that she literally spent all of her time in the bar wearing low-cut clothing-a lady of the night. The former wouldn't make as much sense as I'm assuming priestesses aren't allowed to trade their amulets away for things and remain in the temple. If she's a lady of the night, she could be trying to either get out of the trade or supplement her income with fishing. If either of those are true, she could be considered as employed, but given the fact that the only thing she does is barter her only apparently valuable piece of property in exchange for fishing lessons I'm going to assume she's very much not employed. Her constant presence in a bar does not help her case.

You actually missed something that is crucially important to getting an accurate picture of the employment situation in Markarth - the place called "The Warrens". It's a downtrodden set of halls in the belly of Markarth where the sick, poor, and unemployed are housed. Enumerating this section as well will bring up the unemployment numbers of the city, and also point to some concerning trends in the city - the poor, sick, and unemployed being shunted away out of sight suggests a very grim view on "undesirables" in the city, and in combination with the use of slavery in Cidhna Mine, it seems that while there is enough work for a larger portion of the populace to be employed, the use of slave labor takes jobs aways from those who need them, increasing the rift between the working class and the land owners of Markarth. It also suggests a critical lack of social security systems, despite Markarth being a seemingly very wealthy city.

In the Elder Scrolls universe, Dwarves were actually quite tall - in fact they were technically just a subspecies of elf. They were only named "Dwarves" because they were first encountered by Giants.

Vorstag is definitely not a lady, he was one of my first Skyrim husbands. Wait till he goes down to his skivvies for a swim - hubba hubba! And for the census - I snagged him by employing him first. He does have a weird thing for Dwemer places, we just moved away so I don't have to hear him talk about that all the time. I also note you mention there isn't as much civil conflict in Markarth as in Dawnstar. However, the Forswarn issue (did that nice lady die or was she saved when you first arrived) may play a role. BTW, love the hair clips :D

When the housecarl asks you what you are doing in the throne room and you can respond "I'm looking for work", I thought there would be a comment because that is technically why you are there. Also, you forgot to visit the Warrens, aka the place where all the unemployed people live.

Prison labor is usually mandatory in old cultures and video games. If it was reasonable pay, maybe even work release like in the Scandinavian countries where they can just go into town to work then go back to prison at night, that should count towards consenting labor.

10:35 I don't believe this specific kind of prison labor would be considered employment since they are not paid, whereas the US Prison Industrial Complex DOES pay their workers a completely unacceptable few cents per hour separating it from "slave labor" (but not really. destroy the prison industrial complex)

This series of Skyrim reports has been fantastic. This one has been the best so far. Your humor and delivery is so entertaining. Your (seemingly) lack of knowledge of Skyrim is actually refreshing and serves for some hilarious interactions. Commenting for more!

I like to imagine this takes place in a universe where the Dragonborn, of his own volition, said "Y'know, someone needs to track the unemployment rate in this country." So he founded, ran, and surveyed for the Bureau of Labor Statistics by himself. None of these activities are sanctioned or endorsed by the government of Skyrim.
