Totally agree! What I have learned to be really helpful is to define and implement different versions of discipline/willpower. Sometimes it is just that I have to push myself to do the thing I need to do. But it can get really fatiguing if I need to force myself to do every action I don't feel like doing (which is a lot of them...). I've learned that it can also mean lowering the friction needed to get started. Some days when I have extra struggle to go to the gym, I divide it into 2 so-called pre-actions: 1. Already pick out and put on gym clothes (I live under 10 min walk away from my gym) and 2. Step outside of my apartment. On those days I'm actively not thinking about the workout I'm going to do beforehand or anything beyond my front door. I'm just trying to focus on going from 0 to 1 = inaction to action. Additional steps can of course be added, but keeping it simple and least demanding as possible is the key point in my experience!

Dan John has a great section in his book "Never Let Go" where he talks about free will much like you did about limiting choices. Same thing, he always wears a black V neck, one less choice. Good stuff. Simple but effective.

Thanks a lot for this video Mr. Bell. I recently have been learning more about discipline versus motivation as I have recently become a father. Some days it is just not in the cards to get a big lift in like I maybe wanted to, but getting in a weighted walk or some steps, push ups, pull ups etc. can still feel like a win. Even if it’s not that much, it’s 100% more than nothing. I also have taken the "baby yourself" approach for my BJJ journey. I started back in January and I do really enjoy it. However, I'm not so deep in it that I'm there every day. There have been many days where my body, and sometimes my mind, just can’t deal with the stress. I've decided it's all good though to take time off from time to time, because I want to keep falling in love with it and this sport really is a marathon, not a race. I remember you've said that in previous videos and it has definitely stuck with me. Thank you for this content and I look forward to seeing more.

I remember watching you progress on your way to competing in the bodybuilding show. I believe around 6 weeks out I saw your demeanor change, it was noticeable on your face and the way you spoke. I experienced the same thing doing a show. It made me realize anything is possible over time.

This kind of discussion is so refreshing compared to the average "bro" type of discussion (I enjoy the "bro" type of discussions as well lol)

It is certainly a lot easier if you love it. He who loves to walk will always walk farther than he who loves the destination Also I ordered your little knee sleeves. Very minimalist. Can't wait until they arrive

Tell that to David Goggins lol he hates running but does it as form of discipline to push himself on doing things he hates to pave way through testing the mind

@Jeffro5564 I don't think Dave hates the results or his achievements but he certainly hates what he is still doing to maintain it 🤣

Hey buddy, why not just admit you have nothing positive to say about anything? Enjoy living an unpleasant, unhappy life, my man.
