Most of these people on the comment section who have sigma 16mm f1.4 can't accept the fact that the yongnuo 16mm f1.8 is, in many cases, sharper than the sigma. The yongnuo 16mm f1.8 has a lot more to offer than the bulky sigma . I shoot with both lenses and find myself using the yongnuo more . You all should relax and buy the two lenses for tests before arguing for nonsense .

This video made me bite the bullet on the YN16, so thank you for that. I'd considered the Sigma for a year or so, but the YN's smaller size and price tag (£144!) was hard to ignore any longer, especially after your take. Suffice to say, HUGE improvement on the kit lens in every way. I've only started on my first video with it, but the results are spectacular. Cheers!

Thanks for all these helpful videos Mark! So I bought the sigma 18-50, which is as far as my very limited understanding goes a fixed aperture at f2.8 or so. Yet when paired with my new a6700 I can still change the aperture and the focal length changes. What's happening here, camera doing some digital adjustments? Will this lower the quality of the image? Thanks a bunch. Oh and by the way, I'm VERY new to this if you didn't catch it earlier in comment ;)
@holland96433 ай бұрын
Just in case you never figured it out - the Sigma 18-50 (among many other better zoom lenses) is not a fixed aperture lens, it is a lens that has a constant maximum aperture of f2.8 throughout the whole zoom range. You can close down the aperture as you like at any point - that won't affect the focal length unless you physically zoom the lens, but would affect the shutter speed and/or ISO depending on what shooting mode you are using

Mark, have a ZV-10 with a kit lens and am wanting to upgrade to a 16mm fixed lens. My main use will be shooting dance videos in an indoor studio. The light in the studio is not as bright as I would like thus why I liked the sigma 1.4. My first question is will I be able to actually use the 1.4 setting and raise the shudder speed to avoid blurred videos? I am not sure what shudder speed will be optimum forclear dance motion but I am concerned that using the sigma at 1.4 will not allow me to raise shudder speed high enough to avoid blurred video. If you think that the lower lighting in the studio will not allow me to use the F1.4 setting (without blur) then I should probably buy the Yongnuo at 1.8. Your thoughts please!
@MarkBennettCameraCrisis6 ай бұрын
you’re confusing concepts a bit. If you want to shoot dance, set your shutter speed at 1/60 and shoot 30p. (or 1/50 if shooting 25fps in a PAL region.) you’ll need to set your aperture whatever will make the image bright enough. the aperture will control the background blur. higher F numbers will give you less blur in the background. In a dim environment, you’ll like need something like the 1.4.

These lenses Yongnuo have been coming out with aren't helping my gear acquisition syndrome. Very curious to see if they expand their range to other focal lengths next or if they start working on other mounts. Their value and performance on Z mount or RF mount (if Canon fully opens the flood gates) would make even more cameras viable for more users too. I will say my Sigma 16mm has been my everyday lens on my ZV-E10 and I couldn't image retiring it at any point since it just does almost everything for me (sans vlogging but I have my Tokina 11-18 2.8 for that).

While Yongnuo has some advantages for vlogging, it's not as sharp for other uses, and astrophotography in particular demands every bit of light, so 2/3 of a stop makes the difference. I'm afraid its price is too close to Sigma's at the moment - for something like $250 it'd be a killer. Hehe, 16mm at that distance in studio makes your herculean hands bigger than your head!
