I'm blown away. Happy you appreciate what this camera is. It may be an upgrade, but it seems to be far more than originally assumed. I think Best Buy will let me buy this, interest free, for a 2-year plan. Here I cried when I spent $3 for the A7CR. I think I would love most is the EVF. With my not so great right eye, even that EVF will look fantastic. Mark, can you pass on a hint to Sony to upgrade the EVF on their "C" line of compact cameras, please. I watched Mark Galer's very long review of this cameras, seems he had one for a good amount of time to explore all the features. The A1 II is more camera than anyone really needs, but here it is. Hope your wonderful, compassionate wife with lots of money will put the new A1 II under your Christmas Tree.

For the price you can get one a7rv and one a7siii. I could get an a71ii and probably I would do all I need to do with the only a1ii. But. What if I need two camera in the same moment or shooting? What if you need a back up body on the shooting? For me, the real deal would be a camera body with the stabilization close to the jimbal, but I think we are not there yet. The a7rv has a very good Ibis, the best of Sony full frame, and still it allows you to shoot usable video when standing, but not where moving.

Been a Sony user for 10 years, thinking on options/switching, Sony great performance, great 3rd party options, too expensive compared to competition. Canon R52 best bargain for similar performance but no 3rd party glass to speak of, Nikon great lens choices and bodies very reasonable pricing but maybe a step behind Canon and Sony in autofocus. Great to have choices that get the job done but tough to choose

The canon R5 ii needs the new battery to get the full performance, Nikon is still far behind in autofocus. I’d wait for the Sony a7V will have similar specs as this A1 ii.

You have to look at photography realistically. Can you take great pictures with, let's say, my Nikon F2??????? No? It was a very expensive camera when new. Today it is like a brick, old fashioned, or just OLD. But can you take a good picture with it? If the answer is no, then no camera will make you better. Keep the Sony. These companies are back and forth, leap frogging each other and yet, can you take a good picture with an F2? I come from a background of film cameras. We had slow film winders, slightly fast motor drives, manual focus, we had to select the shutter speed and aperture. Yet, some of my best pictures were taken with a Nikon F2. So, beware of GAS, switching. You will gain nothing except losing a lot of money and not being any happier. Now, go buy a Nikon F2S, a few lenses and show the world you can actually take a good picture.

the 18-50 is so small and light and is a constant 2.8. The 18-135 is a great versatile zoom if you're travelling, as long as you're not looking for a super blurry backgound and you have good light.

Inferencing here. Sony keeps sensors for 2 generations - meaning the A7 V will probably have a new sensor. Newer sensor means it'll probably read out WAY faster. It'll probably have oversampled 4K60, given the processing improvements and sensor readout apeed improvements. It'll probably do 4K120 with a crop. The AF will be just as good as the A1 II I bet.

Ohhh good question. I didn’t think to look for it, but I don’t think it has a dedicated product showcase mode. You can set one up of course, like I showed in my video, but I don’t think it has the actual mode

I watched Gerald's review. In his chat with you, he only hinted at his important rant at the end of that review about how Sony takes all its high-end technology and eventually adds it to "lower end" cameras like the ZV-E1. It also adds new features to those more affordable cameras. But then, it never adds any of those new features to its flagship cameras in a firmware update. In fact, they won't even SELL us a firmware upgrade to cameras like the A7Siii. As a result, I often find myself using my ZV-E1 when possible (over my A7Siii or A7iv) because I like things like the dynamic stabe and advanced focusing features. Will they ever address this complaint from lots of dedicated users?

They basically added preshooting a feature offered on other cameras 2 years ago and added the AI autofocus available on the A7RV at more than 1/2 the price s its basically an A1 with a few new minor features yet $2-3K above the same available options as the Nikon and Cannon. I for one am very disappointed and will keep my A7RV

I am conflicted. My A7RV handles wildlife/birding okay, but I wanted more fps. Pre-capture is so nice. The next step up is either A9III or A1II. Both are about twice as expensive. Pretty large gap up. However, for the price of a A1II I could buy a comparable R5ii + RF zoom lens.

$6K? So Leica territory. This really will sort the hobbyists (me) from pros (uh, some other people). If I had $6K to put on a camera, I'd buy the stupid red dot just like any self loathing barrista or dentist. But that's not really the mindset, is it? Because Sony is like Toyota/Honda - they have one in every range for every price point. So this is basically their Lexus/Acura whatever. I just got a used A7iii so I'm in the 2018 Camry/Accord. Love the back and forth between you and Gerald. It's the closest we have to "rappers having beef" that we'll get on these camera channels. ;)

I'm cheap... it's not $6500 here, but you can add $1300 to that, it's $7,8632 here. $6500 is a no brainer ( my brain says too expensive 😆), but $7,8632 is a hard pass. Looks like a great camera though, thanks for the initial impression. Perhaps they can sent it to you again for a longer test to convince you to find that hidden money.

Is a z8 a better buy? Sure. But does the z8 have the support system that a sony has? no. When youre buying into sony, yes youre buying amazing but expensive cameras, but what youre really buying is the whole ecosystem of tools. Third party lenses, slog3 support, cinema cameras hybrid cameras photo cameras all in the same family. No other manufacturer has that except maybe canon, but no thanks. At least that is how I see it and justify it. Am I super tempted by the z8? Yeah, I loved my d7200. But they dont have the lens support, some af tracking issues, etc. And what would I have for a B or C cam on a multi cam shoot? 2 more z8s? Well now im spending far more money than I did with sony and the fx30. A a1ii, a7siii, and a fx30.....thats what I want to handle everything from wildlife to interviews, and I dont see anyone else with a comparable system.

First and foremost, Sony is a TV company. The price of $6500 is definitely a flagship price. BUT, the feature set and performance, is still head and shoulders INFERIOR vs Z8/9 and R5/R5ii. No internal raw. No 8K60. No 4K downsampled from 8K. Codec flavors too basic, inferior to the competition. No top plate LCD. EVF still drops rez, while focusing(according to Gordon). LCD is still very low rez. Sony’s AI chip, not as telepathic vs Canon’s chip. According to Fro(Mr Polin) it overheated sooner than his original R5(latest firmware). No cooling grip option. AF is ok vs original A1, but sucks vs R5ii(added more AF pts, both brand new AF & AI cpu), because Sony recycled 4yrs old AF cpu and just added the newer AI chip. You can’t mix old and new cpu and expect decent performance again. Paying over $2200 more for less capabilities vs Z9/8 R5/R5ii. It should have been called Beta(not alpha) B1.02 😂😂

In addition to watching reviews, I always recommend people try them out. Also, price out the lenses you need. I wouldn’t call any of these cameras inferior to each other because there are differences. Get the system that works for you. There are amazing options now.

I have shot motocross and other action sports with my a9 to this day with zero rolling shutter and it is great for low light and sports and wildlife..

Yes, a global shutter would have been nice, but that would have reduced dynamic range. At the moment, the A1 ii shutter is a good compromise. My guess is that it will take over 10 years before high-resolution global readout sensors are good enough.
