One trick I use when fishing rivers or estuaries that flow hard- ie Hawkesbury river is to look for trash lines . These tend to form where the current has either been forced to abruptly change direction or it has ran into another body of water that opposes its flow and this means the speed of the water flow has to slow right down ( think of the mouth of Cowan creek and the Hawkesbury river ) these areas are where any prawns or small baitfish that were being swept away by the current can escape and the predators are just sitting there waiting for them . I learned this trick from trout fishing in fast flowing streams - same principle just on a much bigger scale .

I'm from central Oz so fishing is a rare treat for me. But come this late June/July, I'm heading to Cairns for the first time and I'll give it a crack in between tours and family time.

Great tips mate, especially #2. This is why I tell people that the spot you fish is not the most important thing to worry about.

Great video. Alot of good points that are overlooked. Confidence in using lures seems to be the biggest hurdle for alot of anglers and these tips are great kindling for keen prospectors.

Hey mark just watched the video I go camping at lake conjola every year what part we’re you fishing I recommend up at the entrance because the sand flat drops off into a deep hole and flatties smash swim baits and slippery dogs work well for whiting on the flats at high tide

I was lucky enough to spend 8 years on Groote Eylandt. The fishing there is next level. When bottom-bouncing, if you haven't caught a fish in the last 2 minutes, it's time to move the boat. 🎣

Hey Mark, I'm considering buying a new light rod, for bream, flatty, cod and occasional trevally if she pops up (honestly anything ). I have some hard bodies at home that I don't use because my rod is too heavy to flick something so light. I don't know what to buy, a 1-3 kg is too light because I want to catch a big flatty, so maybe 2-4. But I also want a 2-piece to fit in my mum's car, which is a Mazda CX3, so fairly small. I'm not sure whether a 2-4 will cast the distance I want though, because I fish land based. My budget is not very high (under 200, for rod + reel). Love your vids btw, they are super helpful.

Could someone please tell me what plastic he is holding @ 7mns.23sec? I've been trying to find this particular colour in a soft plastic for ages, but haven't seen anything like it since I ran out of some old atomics that I had.

I look for breeding grounds I’ll get 15 flathead in a couple of hours and then nothing then they go down a bit deeper I could fish the one spot for 3days or 2weeks then they move

Mark I've been researching bite times based moon phase (and/or position) and the only stuff I've been able to find isn't clear to someone with a basic understanding. I only fish landbased around port phillip and western port bay's and i think it'd help tons to understand this more. Can make a video in further detail on how you choose when and where you plan your sessions around interpreting bite times?

Sawfish are a protected species I think in every state. Having a rostrum on your wall and promoting it on videos is not a good look. Several people have been stung with big fines for just owning one in WA. Even if it is twenty years old.
