Great work fantastic!🙂 After cutting & sanding the cutting lines I wash the body, then mask the windows AND then I wash the body again with dishwashing soap & A VERY SOFT BRUSH (used at car cleaning/detailing), NO abrasive towel or sponge which can lift the masking stickers. For drying I use a small blower (cold air to prevent limescale, so no hair dryer!). Works great!🫡 Big thanks for all your great videos! I did the Tamiya Audi V8, took me 40 hours or so!😅😉

Tip from a Gundam modeler here, for putting on stickers perfectly, spray the back of the sticker with some soapy water and then set them on the surface. This way you can adjust them perfectly and then press them down with a q-tip. After you've pushed some of the water out and it starts to stick down you can squeeze the water out with a q-tip. You can also put some clear coat onto them.

Well, I think you did this video brilliantly, packing it with tips such as leaving the wheel arch lip in place and taking the time to number each sticker. I´m impressed by the number of different implements you press into service to get the stickers to conform to the contours of the body. And the paint! Meticulous prep and the correct products combined to give you a gorgeous result, with the black inner coat saving us from the horrors of bright sunshine blasting straight through a lexan body and illuminating it from within.

Hiya, Del! Thanks very much my friend. Yeah, it's well worth spending a bit of time to get these Tamiya kits right, they look so good when finished. Excellent how-to video Mark. Well done! I use a fine tip sharpie pen to mark the cut lines before cutting the body. My 60 year old eyes have trouble focusing on those recessed lines in the clear lexan so adding a black line to mark them helps. I've found the large Subaru logos on the side to be the most challenging decals to apply since there are so many body contours to contend with. It has taken me hours to apply all the decals but I think this is my all-time favorite and the best Tamiya rally car body. I've gone one additional step and added a roll cage to the interior. Like you, after spending so much time on the body I was reluctant to get it dirty. After a time however, I was reminded why I bought the car, got over it and went out and had some fun. It's a great car. Thank you for posting these build videos Mark. Cheers!!

Thanks very much my friend, sorry for the late reply. Yeah, I sometimes use a Sharpie to highlight the lines, too - my eyes are as bad as yours, I'm close behind you at 60!!! Agreed, those side stickers are the trickiest. Took me hours too, but I also agree this is an awesome looking rally legend! Cool addition of a roll cage, I may try that one day. Just done the first run, and like you I got it really dirty after gravel, sand and grass running! Thanks for watching and commenting, much appreciated! :)

@@MarkBryanRC I think I may enjoy it now as well. I have two TT-02's coming today (Mustang GT4 and NSX), which are my first Tamiya's ever. I wanted this kit you decaled here, but my son picked those. My son turns 9 next month, and these will be his first RC builds, with dada's help of course. But at 50 years old, for some reason, buying these brings back memories of my first real hobby grade RC, which was the Kyosho Javelin. I was 15, and I remember the very first time I fired it up, I was holding it, and bumped the throttle by accident. The spiked tires burnt grooves into my forearm that I can still see the scars from today. Anyway, the decals I did on that car were horrible. They peeled up because I just slapped them on like a kids toy. So when I bought these TT-02's, it sparked something in my son. He called me yesterday and asked me if they showed up yet. He asked what hopup parts showed up, and I sent him pictures of wheels, shocks, and all the goodies. I have dropped nearly $500 on the Mustang GT4, and a bit on the NSX kit. He is so excited, and that has me excited. Anyway, sorry to go around the memory bank to get to a point, but I will be showing him this video when we get to the decal stage, so he can hopefully appreciate good decal techniques, which I never did.

Hiya matey. Happy Friday to you. Ah this brings back memories of my lockdown project of the Impreza body I did. Thanks for the mention 😁 I do think that on these RC's that aren't bashers that it's worth spending a bit on paint because the appearance is everything. You've done a tip top job on it mate and it looks the business. The spoiler on mine was just black with blue stickers on the sides that don't really match. Good idea to use the same lexan paint and to seal it. Also your gold painted wheels look great. I've now got gold wheels on mine (kindly supplied by Derek) but I have just left them with the colour of the plastic because of the chipped paint issue that you mentioned. Like you say at least the colour underneath is similar. I've got a nearly finished video of mine. I'm in two minds as to whether I need a bit more footage. Anyway hope your Friday is going well. We are running a bit late and haven't had tea yet but we have had beer and crisps which are seeing us through. I've just received my new Arrma Senton which I'm going to do an unboxing video of. Absolutely superb Mark - stunning ! I held back watching this video until post-midnight ( peace at last ) with a glass of Jack Daniel's Tennessee Honey ( well earned ), and it was well worth the wait. You always do a fantastic job on these shells and this beauty is no exception. I must admit I've never really been a fan of this shell, but this video certainly changed my mind. Also I have to say ( as a miniature painter ) the paint job you did on those two drivers was exceptional. Driver figures always improve the look of an RC vehicle, but when they are finished to these levels the whole thing becomes 'showcase standard.' Please be careful on your first run, I'd hate to see this model damaged. Thoroughly enjoyed this one.... 👍🏻. Have a groovy weekend...🙃

Cheers my friend! Glad you had some quiet time - and man, that glass of JD sounds wonderful, I bet you enjoyed that! The reason this body means so much to me is the Richard Burns link - I was a big fan of his and was gutted to learn of his death. Such a shame, the good guys always seem to have terrible misfortune, and a brain tumour ended his life in the middle of a fantastic career. Building this one was my little tribute to one of my sporting hero's. The fact that it's one of the better looking Subaru's, being a 3 door coupe, was the icing on the cake. Thanks for the compliment about the cockpit - very humbling, coming from a man of your skills. Yes, I promise to be careful with this one, I'll choose a spot with no trees to collide with! Thanks again, and all the very best of wishes to you, mate! :)

Also can you do a video on maby locking the diff to see what to differences are and if it's worth it? Just an idea, thanks and keep up the good work.

Thanks a ton, Jamie! Hope your Scoobie comes out well, I'm sure you will love it! Thanks for the sub, really appreciated my friend. Will definitely look into a diff lock - not sure it will be a big advantage on a rally car, I think the thick AW grease is a good compromise, stiffening things up a little. Hi dude! It's best to just have a go at the painting and learn as you go. Spray the can in short bursts and lay lots of short coats. Hi Charlie! Yes, it is an excellent reproduction of the rally car. If I were you, I would apply the window masks, then tape off the window surrounds where you want them to be black. Then spray the main body colour. Next, remove the window surround masking, but leaving the window masks in place, spray the black. Finally, remove the window masks. Hello mark I've bought one of these for my son and the steering seems terrible do you know of any hop ups for the steering that work well? Thanks steve
@MarkBryanRC3 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve! You got that in one! Yes, the steering is far from perfect, and I'm afraid it's down to a poor design, especially those front steering hubs/axle carriers. I'm afraid there isn't a lot you can do about it. There will be some slop in the linkages caused by the step-screws. You can reduce this by fitting the alloy hop-up links and bearing kit (fastrax do a cheaper one than Tamiya's) but it will not completely solve the problem. All the best! :)

They don't do packs for Tamiya kits, you just have to buy M3 screws of different lengths to match the length of the ones in the kit. On the plus side the Metallic Blue and Silver undercoat looks amazing, so after the decals the whole project might turn out quite well.

Hi Jonathan - yeah, I've had mixed results with the smoke PS paint. I think it has a lot to do with the conditions when spraying.
