Subbed! Great channel! TT-01 can rally quite well with the suspension modified for more travel. I've had mine for years and it works great! There are great vids on how to do this and it doesn't take much. Here is a quick rundown: 1- Cut away the part of the skid plates that are stopping the lower arm travel. 2- Cut away the notches on the inside drive hubs so they don't catch on the newly drooping upper suspension arms. 3- CVA mini shocks built to around 60mm eye to eye. Mine came with softer springs than the kit. 4- Buy adjustable steering rods or raise the non-adjustable ones on the outer side with spacers/longer screws. 5- Optional- Buy adjustable upper suspension arms. 6- Use window screen material over motor vents (My motor is brushless with no vents). You could use window screen under the battery tray and to make a top cover but I never bothered. My controller is a cheap one from Banggood and has a gyro that's set to about 25%. Really helps. My Wheels are 3mm offset and have tires that are softer rubber and slightly higher profile (from ebay). I have just over 1" ground clearance and the car squats, dives, and rolls beautifully! Try it!

Wow! Thank you for all that! I am going to have to print all that out! Great pile of tips and tricks! I am going to modify my track later this year, if it ever cools off, and be able to run these around out there on it. That giant jump is cool but really limits these from running as it is just going to destroy the bodies! Once I get that torn down then I think it will be a much better multi purpose track and I can have small moveable jumps out there! Thank you again for all the great info!!

My crunched twice, a tt-02 and a tt-01, the reason was a slightly crooked motor mount. My wheels dont look that bad but I think we are suppose to paint them maybe, not sure. Its a TT-01, it was designed before brushless and made to be the cheapest touring car tamiya could make back then. Now its a type e it has the brace and a few changes, but still the original chassis from a decade ago. Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn, but we never really lose. Glad you caught up on touring car wheelbases, youre a very influential rc youtuber so im glad you learned what wheelbases are what. Shocks will depend on your surface and the way you drive but I went 2 hole with stock tamiya soft fluid. The important part is the springs, factory springs far too hard, I went with much softet springs. The TT-01 is best suited for on road conditions from my experience, the TT-02 gas an extra 1 to 1.5 centimeters more clearance. Im excited to see you rip this on some flat dirt! 😍
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the shock tip. It does feel really rigid and softer springs would probably help. The piston swap will really help as there feels like there are none in there right now. It'll be after I get back from vacation before I'll have time for a run but I am looking forward to it! It should look great out there sliding around even if the performance isn't fully there yet. I will make sure I get appropriately covered in dust and dirt when filming!!

Thanks, I love the look of it, just not sold on the chassis yet. I am trying to find a softer set of springs and will be changing the 3 hole for a 2 or a 1 hole piston before running it. I saw just the other day someone using some carbon fiber print vinyl as a chassis protector. I happen to have some about that size so I may do that and cover the entire bottom and then back tape the slots to keep dirt from sticking to the exposed vinyl. That didn't click until you mentioned it so thank you a ton for triggering that!

Really sweet car Addam! I really like this! All the discrepancies you mentioned though are valid.. the main things to me would be suspension and wheels. I love the style of the wheels, but the plastics used and the way it was melted are what cause the “tiger Stripes”. Nice looking build! Dude, you are the decal master! I recently built my first TT-02R and I had some difficulties with the oil shocks as well. I think in my case, the springs are super hard. I ended up using the stock oil the kit came with and the single hole piston just to keep it from being ultra bouncy like your TT-01. The suspension is still too hard so I am on the hunt for some softer springs. They are surprisingly hard to find! Awesome build yet again!
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, these springs are very stiff as well and are probably better suited for an on-road setup. I am hoping with a slower piston in there it will help until I get more springs as well. Rex suggested I soften the springs too. I don't have much for shock tuning for these tiny things so I am right there with you on the hunt for some spring sets! That is really a good looking body. I wonder if it would fit on a TT-02B chassis. I have never built a TT-01 chassis of any kind and your assessment makes me less inclined to try it. I am going to build another Tamiya kit sometime soon. I don’t exactly know which one yet. I have one on order, but I bought it because it was on sale and I couldn’t resist (you know how that goes). …so you applied the window stickers as intended by Tamiya and cut out the screens afterwards? Do you just do it free-handedly with a sharp pointed cutter or do you use some tape or thing like that, as guides? I would very much appreciate, if all stickers would be factory pre-cut. Especially those larger stripes, where you don't want any transparent bits left at the edges, would be easy to do.
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground 2 жыл бұрын
This kit had the precut stickers. Honestly I prefer to cut them out myself as I get tighter to the colors but it is nice occasionally to just be able to peel them off and go. I put the window stickers on as they were and once in place cut the grey part out with a new hobby knife blade. The key is to not firmly press the whole thing down firmly and then very light cuts with the blade. It takes very little to cut through them. Then peel up the throw away part and then go back over the rest to ensure it is stuck down well. I just free hand it but you could use some painters tape or something as a helping guide. A good light and a light touch is helpful... And not too.much coffee!!

Hi Addam, this Subaru is very different from the one I built som time ago. I'm agree with your mind on chassis. Tamiya makes so many different chassis and this find me a little confused...... Ciao

I am hoping once I can get out and drive it I will fall in love with it. I love the way it looks but I not so impressed with the chassis so far. For an on road car it makes more sense but for a rally car, well, we will have to wait and see! I think it will do fin and I will be happy once I can get out there and slide it around in the dirt!

@@AddamsPlayground My Impresa on the track is quite nice, but hasn't the dumpers run long as the real rally cars so its a little bouncy. It requires attention even for small rocks. on asphalt, fantastic. Ciao

Your problem is probably the screws hitting the spur gear. Use shorter black screws

It was really weird, took it all apart, verified the hardware and parts were all in place correctly and reassembled and it stopped doing it. not sure what went back together differently but it has worked fine since!

Nice walktrough :) How is the ride height on this one compared to TT02 "high"? I find that TT02 is actually pretty good on high and as high as the rally chassis XV01.

Thanks! I say there is close to 1/4 inch (6-7MM) difference in the two, enough to give it some needed clearance but not too high to cause wonky driving. It does seem to body roll a bit more on the higher setting but nothing ridiculous. For rally I would go ahead nd build them on the high setting.

Yeah, this one is kind of outside my normal but it kind of makes it exciting to learn a new car and learn to drive it. I am sure once I can get it out slinging some dirt around and get some good footage of that I will fall in love with it. I appreciate you stopping by and watching it even though it isn't your type of thing.

Once I see how it goes out on a ball field it may end up going around the track. Not sure how well it will deal with Elf Mountain!!

Can I use any receiver I want for the Subaru?
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground 4 ай бұрын
There is enough room in the chassis to run anything from the old AM/FM radio gear to the smaller more modern 2.4ghz gear in there. Basically you mount either the ESC or the receiver into the chassis between the servo and the motor and the other gets stuck down to the servo. I mount my ESC down low and the receiver up on the servo case. Just to keep the weight down low.

There are no real headlights for this Subaru?
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground Жыл бұрын
There are no headlight buckets included with the kit but I am sure you could mask off the headlight and tail light areas and create your own light buckets easily enough.

I want to purchase my first rc and I was looking at the FTX TRACER BRUSHLESS but I want something that is a real car, as I am deeply into cars also. I would use it for grass, gravel and dirt so which do you recommend? The Tamiya Subaru OR the FTX TRACER BRUSHLESS??
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground Жыл бұрын
In short grass it should go ok and on small gravel it should do ok. On taller grass it is going to want to float due to the lower ground clearance and likewise on larger rough gravel.it is going to scrape and hop by getting bounced about. The best surface is going to be something like a dirt track or ball field to run around on but it will work on other surfaces just keep in mind the low ground clearance issues. The chassis is plenty tough so it can handle the rough, it will just tax the motor and suspension but a lot in tall grass and really rough gravel.

Might go for the FTX TRACER BRUSHLESS as that will cover everything.
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground Жыл бұрын
@@AAK18. it does have a bit more ground clearance and should do better in gravel. Still be careful with it as they will run hot of you are going through taller grass. Fresh mowed length is fine but taller than that these small ones drag a lot and can cause overheating and/or motor damage from the heat. I don't get too many of the smaller ones due to that as most of my driving is in the grass.

I am still wondering what happened too! I took it all apart and found nothing out of place, no wear or even any chunks of random trash in anything that would cause it to act up. I took it for a run and it was super fun and it ran like a champ without a single hiccup! One of those fluke things I guess! I am not a fan of not knowing what was the problem but it was some magic taking it apart and putting it back together that fixed it I guess! LOL!

What’s the total width & hood width? Thx

Sorry for the late reply, I had to get off of work and go out and measure it for you! It is 183mm wide at the front and 188mm wide in the rear at the fenders which are the widest parts. The hood is 142mm wide at the front and 153mm wide at the rear. It is a 257mm wheelbase and overall it is 435mm bumper to bumper (give or take a few mm for the length). I hope that helps you out.

Hi Paul! I run nimh packs in mine and I get my batteries usually from Amazon. You can find the Zee brand nimh packs for a very reasonable price, right now you can get 2 3600mah batteries for $32 or 2 5000mah batteries for $45. You can run lipo in them but I have never run one in this so I am not sure about fitment, some packs might and others might not, there is a lot of variation between lipo battery case sizes and styles. The nimh style batteries fit in there perfectly and are very similar to the old nicad packs from back in the day but a lot longer run times!!

@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground Жыл бұрын
@@paulvanwezel3324 It really depends on if you have a transmitter or not and if it able to be used with multiple models. I assume you do not have one so My best recommendation for a budget radio is the Flysky RC FS GT2B. I works well and has a rechargeable battery for the transmitter. There are lots of others in the $40-$70 price range. Almost all modern 2.4 ghz radio systems will work great for you. This one you will have to do some shopping around for to find one you like and suits your budget. More expensive ones can hold multiple models in the memory so you can use one transmitter for multiple cars. If you have a transmitter then you will have to look it online to see what receiver will work with it.

You Have To Flip The Lower A Arms To Get Long Or Short Wheel Bace And If Your Going To Do Rally Get Better Shocks 55mm To 60mm To Clear Rocks And Block The Holes Were The Batt Sits...

The holes in the chassis is annoying, I know why there are there but not a good choice of a rally kit! For the most part the mesh chassis cover kept out all the bits really well, everything was just dusty so I am very happy with that cheap upgrade. I do need to get this back out, maybe once I finish the Celica GT4 I will take both back out for run!
