In this week’s episode, we discuss how I used to hate editing photos until I discovered this approach which completely changed the way I look at photography. When I was a beginner, photo editing was a huge source of confusion for me, but I knew it was something I was going to have to overcome if I wanted to improve my photo skills. In this video, I'll review what made it all click for me from an editing perspective. Not only did this drastically improve my photography, but it made the entire process much more enjoyable for me. I hope you enjoy this week's video and as always thanks so much for watching! - Mark D.

As usual got a lot out of the video. Really great work and what you can do with masks. Very interesting. I actually use some of that on my portraits just really didn’t know I could do more. Thanks. One question I have is after you make all the edits and maybe look at the image the next day do you make more edits, add more take some out? Seems every time I look at my work again I make changes and I thought I was happy w my edits to begin with.

Wow that finished product is really, really great! Just curious would it be of any added value to do a slight dodge and burn to enhance the mountains in the upper right, to give a little more 3d to the photo?

Can I suggest an alternative to the idea of "the eye is attracted to the brightest point of a photo"? I was taught it is the brightest point of contrast. Be it colour contrast or exposure, even if you have a brighter point in the photo, the contrast is what we really seek out. Think about the times you have the sun in a landscape, and how it isn't the main point of interest, even though it's still the brightest point. Anyways, just a thought. Great walk through of your thought process.

Hi Mark, many thanks for another very educational video. Your edits certainly showed how the use of light can add the appearance of depth to an otherwise flat image. But I hope that you won't mind me making a personal observation. In my very humble opinion, I felt that the trees behind the cabin were a little too bright in the final edit and as a result they slightly overwhelmed the centre of the image. I understand how in this particular image, drawing the viewers eye to the main subject is very important, but to me personally, it seemed a bit too much. I hope that you do not mind me making this observation. Best Regards Tony

I started my photography journey many years ago when I'd go into a darkroom and fiddle with all sorts of tools to adjust the lighting of specific area of an image. Advancing the clock, with the advent of PS, LR, etc., we have gone to these global settings. In my personal workflow, I find the best results comes when I ignore the global settings and go directly to the masking tools to work on specific areas of an image. It sort of avoids the duplicative nature of overworking a specific area of an image. Any thoughts?

I wish you did some photoshop stuff. I've also heard of clipping colors which makes colors less accurate. People don't necessarily talk about clipping colors which is odd to me. And with values in the 70s there is definitely chances of color clipping. I wonder what the individual RGB channels show. What are your thoughts on clipping colors? I'm sure if you used that GFX you wouldn't have to go to values in the 70s. Also it would show more of that beautiful sky with the 4:3 ratio. I am also slightly surprised you didn't make the jump to Phase One. 150mp sounds great for cropping or printing!

Love your videos, but they are unwatchable as of late. Not sure if you have any control over this, but is it possible to disable auto translate on your end? This setting creates issues when using Apple air play. The option to select language is unavailable once AirPlay is selected and the audio track defaults to whatever foreign language is on top of the list. All of my settings are correct. This issue first appeared on Christian Möhrle - The Phlog Photography KZbin channel but he seems to have resolved the issue. Continued complaints to KZbin are not addressed. Maybe it’s something you can help with? Thanks!

That was exactly my thought, that it might be a 110. It does resemble a Minolta 460T (the logo next to the flash is blurry but does look like Minolta). When I was a kid, the only 110 cameras I saw were the ones that used flashcubes (and generally with the extender which was supposedly to eliminate red eye).

I enjoyed the editing demonstration. Using masks have totally revolutionized and improved what one can do to to their images. That said, the edits can be overdone as well to the point its easier to see when someone went beyond what they should have and image starts to look a bit unnatural. Most AI generated landscapes suffer from this and are easy to spot.
