One thing I noticed right away when you toggled between the Raw image and the completed image were the berries. In the Raw photo, you really can't see them but when you warmed up the middle, that red shows up much easier and helps to add to the scene.

Another top notch lesson here on using light to enhance the view. Some people don’t understand digital photography and raw files so let their nay says roll off your back. There are times when processing a scene I begin to question myself for using multiple brushes, radials and grads and today’s video confirms that some times that’s what is necessary to complete the look. Thanks 😊

I started my first job as a professional photographer in 1969. This is a great example of enhancing a photograph. In the days of film, we use to do similar effects with the light projected onto photo paper. It was to dodge and burn the image in specific areas using a circular disk between the projector and the paper. These are the same principals that the great masters of the Renaissance applied to their paintings. Great lesson in Lightroom.

I just learnd a lot from this video. I am an AMETUER landscape photographer. I've been using lightroom classic for a few months now. As I watched you edit this image, my thoughts raced a an image of mine that I am pretty proud of. I thought it looked pretty good. And I guess it does. But I plan to use the techniques you are teaching in the video on that image and see if I can't punch it up even more. Thank you Mark for the lesson. But first I'm going to get ready for the day. Then I'm going outside to take some photographs of the snow that is falling. That is, I'm heading to the same location where I took the picture I talked about to shoot another photo. The scene I'm referring to reaaaaaalllly needs to be photographed in the snow. As always Mark, thank you for the lesson. Don't stop making these videos. Every time I watch one of your lesson videos I feel like my photography IQ goes up a few points.

I almost didn't watch this video as it said it was for Lightroom while I'm learning Capture One. However, I thought maybe I could adapt it as they are essentially the same in the end. Glad I did. I've used this technique somewhat before but not nearly so comprehensively. I think you've totally upped my game again. Thanks Mark.

One of my biggest pet peeves with edit videos is when they specify the tools rather than the concepts. See my post above. All of this is concept based, and I think mostly that's how Mark explains it, but I wish more photographers doing instruction like this would lead with the concepts, viewers will get more out it (and they may get more views since it's not labeled with a specific tool!).

I like that you had a progression of adjustments in mind. Some youtubers seem not to know where they're going with adjustments, and make a excessive change with one tool only to undo with a later edit.

Thank you for sharing this perspective, of thinking how the viewer sees the contents. I just need to add though this final edit on this photograph looks just like a painting in, so that’s another way. I never thought of photo editing as digital painting for photos. So we’re painting on lie. We’re painting on color for atmosphere. We’re adding some haze to an image. definitely going to be on my repeat list.

Excellent video of a luminous, wonderful shot. Thanks for pointing out 15:50 ... I know it's more likely a personal choice for most people, but I still find that people treat an image with everything in it, from foreground to the horizon, super sharp and in focus, to be annoying (like where's the realism of the human eye, we're not hawks!)... "optical journey" is also a very useful phrase in approaching editing, will be taking this with me

Mark, I have about a dozen photographer channels I subscribe to on KZbin. I’m mostly interested in wildlife photography and landscape is a close second. This video is one of your best! You are well spoken, the agenda flows nicely, and I can see real progress as you move from one step to the next. Your videos are head and shoulders above the next closest photographer’s videos! IMHO, your videos are every bit as intriguing and masterful as your landscape photographs. Keep up the great work.
