He really had everything it took to be special, he was huge for his size, had great play making instincts, a very pretty and effective jump shot, crafty ness around the rim and a ton of defensive potential, he averaged almost a block a game at UW. This was the kid that Magic Johnson fell in love with after one work out. When he was healthy the hype was real

Fultz was one of the most uniquely skilled big guards college basketball has seen in the last 20+ years. He was slightly unorthodox with his movements, which caught defenders way off guard. He would explode immediately on the catch usually in the opposite way the defender assumed. He had an unbelievable feel for when defenders were just a millimeter off balance. His handle was otherworldly creative even if it could be just the tiniest bit loose sometimes. It’s like Fultz combined the old man savvy game of an Andre Miller with solidly above average overall athleticism for a PG, ESPECIALLY a 6’4-6’5 PG with strength. For that size he was unbelievably quick and FLEXIBLE. He would get down into unbelievably low angles with his knees nearly scraping the floor on his blow bys. He had an incredible floater game and finishing package, and that combined with his phenomenal mid range touch and high IQ gave him the Andre Miller like savvy/ability. He was an incredibly creative playmaker who had a really really high passing IQ and would see passes others simply couldn’t. He also could execute those passes better than most PGs through skill and using his height to his advantage. Lastly he had a really good looking pull up game from the college 3pt line even if his shot wasn’t technically sound or necessarily consistent overall. He made 40% of his college 3s on good volume, especially off the dribble volume. It was fair to question whether his 3pt jumper would translate because he shot at the apex of his jump, was a two motion shooter, and had a backwards lean as well, all poor signs for really good NBA 3pt shooting when the line is several feet deeper. The only REAL question on his offensive Resumé was his FT percentage was low. Again, this made his jump shot translation fairly questionable, but the 40% number made people optimistic. His defense was atrocious, but it was a Lorenzo Roman coached team, one of the the worst coaches in D1 basketball at the time. He was a phenomenal recruiter though. The whole UW team lacked any cohesion or overall theory of how they should play, and as a team they couldn’t defend an NAIA school. BUT Fultz was a very good defensive playmaker with his IQ and athleticism. He just gambled constantly because he wasn’t coached to be fundamentally sound at UW. All that’s to say it should be OBVIOUS why Fultz was the top prospect in that draft. He was an UNBELIEVABLE and unbelievably UNIQUE talent. He wasn’t an ELITE (Lebron Zion Tim Duncan Oden KD Luka) level prospect IMO or even a 2nd tier (AD Towns Dwight maybe a couple more I’m forgetting off the top of my head), but he was DEFINITELY that next level of prospect, which is a good number one overall pick level player.

@GoZags432 жыл бұрын
@@Vortex_Feedz They didn’t “purposefully fuck up” his shot. They may have tried to alter his form and had it backfire big time, but they wouldn’t ruin their top draft pick on purpose. The forgotten thing though is that Fultz shot WAY better than what his actual “level” was as a shooter in that one college season. He was NOT a true 40% 3pt shooter. He was slightly better off the dribble than off the catch weirdly, but his form absolutely couldn’t withstand the added distance of the NBA 3. He shot at his apex. He didn’t get added power from it being a one motion shot. It was a two motion shot at the apex of his jump where he leaned back. The college 3pt line was the limit for his jumper as it was. Also he was a bad FT shooter, which is a really bad sign for NBA 3pt shooting.
