My advice as an IPad Mini 6 user of almost one year, WAIT till Black Friday/Christmas season to upgrade since usually places like Best Buy will take $100 off the IPad Mini 7 for holiday promotion plus with the $230 IPad Mini 6 trade in Value you can get the iPad mini 7 for under $250 for the 128gb model

Dropping Pencil 2 support is a deal breaker for me. I use my pencil regularly, and the lazy spec bump ALMOST makes me don’t want to upgrade. Dropping the Pencil 2 support solidifies it. Bought it when announced, received it the first day, then returned it the next. Fun to hold, a bit snappier yes, more storage on entry level model. But the overall experience has not changed from the Mini 6, which I bought repeatedly and struggled to like. The display is the serious drawback, the scaling of text and icons is too small and creates eye strain. 60Hz issues and lack of peak brightness compound these problems. It's fine for checking email, messages, KZbin etc, allowing casual typing but anything lengthy is cumbersome. This is an expensive product for casual use, especially if you add the Apple Pencil Pro. By comparison the iPad Pro M4 feels nearly as light to hold longterm, offers vastly superior display and speakers, and doesn't strain the eyes. The key benefit of the Mini is that it feels portable, and therefore less prone to damage or loss for casual carry. But the iPhone Pro Max is pocketable and has it beat on all those counts as well. Maybe a good entry level option, especially for specific niche applications. It depends on your use case, budget and expectations. ProMotion, thinner bezels and quad-speakers are the three features that might tempt me to try this form factor again.

I’m a happy owner of the iPad Mini 6, though it sometimes feels a bit slow in certain tasks. While the refresh does make the iPad faster and generally better, for me, it’s not enough to make the switch just yet. For such a small device with a big price tag, it deserves more than just a faster chip. I’ll wait a couple more years before buying a new Mini.

Personally speaking I think its not great the 7 mini doesn't work with the 2nd gen pencil but does work with the USB-C one. They arguably aren't a frequent upgrade device as say a phone or tablet, so I think its slightly out of order they don't support it. Why not? Its still magnetic. Its still functions 95% the same way. Feels like a cynical quest for additional spend at the till.
@sloppynyuszi
@sloppynyuszi Ай бұрын
The charging magnet had to be moved to fit the camera in landscape and the Apple Pencil 2 wouldn’t align to charge on the new pro and air iPads. Now to have clear distinction between pencils they wanted to drop the Apple Pencil gen 1 and 2. So to have the pro work with the mini 7 the charger had to be moved and the pencil 2 won’t align with it. It sucks as in practice the new features of the Apple Pencil pro isn’t really an improvement. The pencil gestures are more awkward than buttons and the barrel roll is nice, but it’s so rarely used Wacom removed that feature from their new pens. Apple hover is a tech added to the screen why the M2 pro already had it with Apple Pencil 2 and the usb c Apple Pencil supports it on the newer iPads.

I happily upgraded my 6. First time I have ever pre ordered an apple device. I wanted the increased storage to 512 as well as the GPS. I foolishly opted to save a few dollars when I bought my 6 and regretted it almost instantly. I use my iPad mini every single day, the apple pencil was a game changer on that size of device. It has completely replaced paper note taking and writing, similar in size to my preferred note book it is the perfect go anywhere device. I also use it extensively for reading as well as research. Every single time I hear someone say jelly scroll I get irritated. Jelly scroll MAY be present but, it IS NOT a factor. If I scroll my M4 Pro Macbook Pro I can't read it either so who really cares if the screen is also a little wavy at the same time ? If you are reading this and trying to decide if you should buy an iPad mini, I say go for it, IF, it is the right device for your needs. Over two years of daily use of my mini 6 there is only one thing that has ever annoyed me and the is the scaling of many web pages, I have yet to find a single thing that I can't do on my ipad. That being said, I am not trying to do things on it that are better suited to an iPad pro.

I'm waffling on my purchase decision, because I've been WAITING for the Mini 7. For me, the bezels and same display is the 'problem'. I don't necessarily have a problem with it day to day. I have a problem with Apple taking the easy way out. It seems they are burning through their backlog inventory, vs. investing in customer experience. Also, and for the first time, I had eye strain when trying out the M4 iPad Pro. The OLED was so stark bright, it was giving me headaches; I had to reduce the white point balance by 30!. Note, I've had iPhones and OLED TVs with zero issues. I hope the dual OLED isn't producing an overkill effect. I say all this, in case they leverage the same tech for future iPads. Has anyone else experienced this? Cheers

Great Video Mark and yes I have hit the subscribe button. My dilemma as an iPad mini 5th Gen user is whether or not to go for the 6 or the 7? With the release of the 7, the price of the 6 has come down so it's a difficult one.

I'm excited the Mini 7 is the same size as the 6. That's a good thing to know moving forward, if I ever need to replace my Mini 6. I use mine as a Kindle, reading a ton of books or watching KZbin late at night in bed. I run Lightroom in the field while on a photoshoot, and I don't use it as my primary LR editing tool. So, I have no plans to upgrade, but if I need to in the future, it's nice to have options, and know the custom leather case I made will work on the new device.

I'm myopic, but this means that I actually see better when I get closer to the screen -- which in turn means that I need high resolution. Now you understand why I like the Mini series. Am an Apple user anyway. I held off on the 6 because of the jelly scrolling, but it now sounds like a compromise that I can live with. I don't even care about note-taking. I use it for the local library app which provides magazines and newspapers from around the world, and for video when horizontal. That's another advantage of the Mini; it weighs less. Greetings from Berlin.

Watching this video on an iPad mini 6. I’m not going to upgrade though. I use this for content consumption and some web browsing. Because they didnt put PROmotion on there I have no reason to upgrade. Couldn’t care less about apple intelligence.

I picked up a mini 7 this afternoon. I bought a 6 when it first launched and it got a bit long in the tooth so picked up a new one. Jelly scrolling was really bad on my early iteration Mini 6 and it was getting slow - that combined with Apple Intelligence tempted me and I am so far happy. Jelly scrolling is much better - it's still there but if I wasn't looking for it I don't know that I would notice. Interestingly, as I was talking to the Apple associate when I was picking it up the said that the Mini is their most popular Ipad. I had agreed that it is nitch product but I found her comment interesting.

Only if they didn’t put the same old 60Hz 500 nits jelly scroll screen I would upgrade. But they did. Devices with that bad screen, except a few Apple made things, are nearly impossible to find in stores these days. Good thing the pilots are going to like it though

To answer You & the Thumbnail: Wanted to buy this as a first time iOS user let alone as a Mini one user BUT I am disappointed with the "Hurriedly put together to get rid of excess A17 Pro Chips" iPad Mini 7 (this) and may just wish for a iPad Mini 7 Pro to be released (as a serious product). Both answers = NO. Appreciate your videos much, Sir 🙏

I don’t have either. If I wanted to get a mini I’d go with the 6. I could probably get a 6 mini 256 for less than a 7 mini 128. Don’t think the 6 mini users should upgrade. Someone made the point to me apple doesn’t make 120 Hz IPS display. Are there any android devices that are over 60hz and not OLED?

such a great review and finally i can make my decision - to upgrade my mini 6 (purchased in April 22) to mini 7. Getting a 125gb would definitely helps, a faster chip and new function deploys, what else could I ask for. The only concern is the old case I have and I would love to keep using it so it’s great news that they are compatible🎉

Just upgraded the 6 to the 7. Got given the pencil pro for my birthday so I had to 😬. Had all the minis over the years and although I thought about the 11” M2 Air, which is a better device, I like the size, I already have accessories and I gain the AI aspect.

Hello Mark, no! With gift vouchers and a trade in from my mini 4, I paid 129.00 for the 256gig. As the case for the 6 fits the 7, bought a brand new one in burnt orange from eBay for 25.00! Picking mine up from the Apple Store tomorrow. By the way, people are saying they not popular. In spite of the fact they don't come with a plug in the UK, Amazon had sold out of the WiFi only versions for the first couple of days of release!

Had the new mini 7 for a couple of days now and to be honest can’t really tell the difference. Upgraded because I use it daily (just home use) and the battery life was falling on the 6, plus Apple gave me a good trade in so it was a no brainer… The jelly scrolling was never a problem for me as I usually use it in landscape and I already have the pencil pro (bought it with my iPad Air 13) so I’m quite happy.

So I have an iPad mini 6 that I use for media consumption. KZbin, book reading, audio book listening. It's a great form factor for mobility and small arthritic hands over the larger heavier iPads. I don't need to upgrade to the iPad mini 7pro because it doesn't have the OLED screen with pro motion and Face ID. Apple intelligence isn't here yet in Canada so we can't take advantage of that. I will keep the mini 6 unless I trade it for an 11in iPad Pro and absorb the much higher cost in order to have the additional features

Bearing in mind I have used Apple products since 1990. Over the years I've had 4 iPad mini's and instead of waiting for the iPad mini 7 I bought a Samsung Tab S9 which comes with the S pen. The Oled screen quality was the game changer. It makes a huge difference and still does. I wouldn't buy the mini 7 for that reason alone and secondly yet the purchase of another iPencil would be required. Too expensive overall.

Great video and great useful work in general. Many thanks! To answer your question, I do not have an iPad yet (any type of iPad), but the iPad mini seems to be the right fit for me. So, I'm going get a refurbished iPad mini 6 with cellular connection as they are now getting quite a bit less expensive. To me, it's a great, less expensive way to this interesting piece of hardware to my toolbox.

I find it hard to want to upgrade since I bought a mini6 9 months ago. The 10 gbps would be nice, and I like the future proofing of the A17 Pro.... but honestly I would rather just spend a bit more and get an 11" Air at this point. I'm happy where I am and will wait to see if a mini8 switches things up.

A practical & meaningful difference is that the 7 has double the memory as the 6, so if you're annoyed by apps having to reload themselves when switching between them, the 7 has better capacity to hold them in memory.

If I don't have iPad mini at all, which one is better for money ? I am getting second hand mini 6 in half the price of new mini 7. Condition is perfect, no signs of use whatsoever. My use is reading, some writing and mild media consumption and as a companion to iPhone SE 22. Anyone who has both Samsung Tab with pen and iPad with pen. Because writing experience on Samsung tab is top notch, and people say writing experience with iPad and apple pen is not up to the mark.
