Marques was out sick when we recorded, so Andrew and David take over the pod and talk about all of the newest gadgets that came out this week! They start with the new Nintendo Switch rumors before digging into the new iPads that were announced. Then they get into the Pixel 8a before we wrap it all up with trivia. 17:30 Almost every console I have ever purchased was obtained by just a dumb luck accident. My favorite one was the Gamecube. It was black Friday, and every store was PACKED. Most stores had setup black friday deal pallets at the front of the store, so people could walk in and get what they wanted, then go straight to the register. And the line for the register was wrapping up and down the aisles (I later found out it took people 3-5 hours to get checked out.). I figured maybe the normal shelf location would be a good spot to check. So I walked to the back of the store , which was completely empty. And there were open registers here as well. And associates standing around waiting to assist. And not only did they have the gamecubes loaded on the shelf, but also a full pallet of them. I picked one up, checked out right there, and was back in my car in a few minutes. Same exact thing happened with Xbox Series S!!! Moral of the story: Whatever, everyone is doing... Look around and do something else.

I found the recent podcast discussion about professional iPad Pro users to be condescending. The hosts kept asserting that the power and features of an iPad Pro are unnecessary, which shows that they have a limited understanding of the needs and preferences of the various professional tablet market. My company develops B2B iPad solutions. One of our clients is a medium-sized real estate firm. They deployed a custom iPad app to their staff. The staff considers the iPad the most powerful computer they’ve ever used because it significantly improves their professional workflow. In the field, they can upload real estate property pictures, edit the inventory database, scan and markup documents, conduct video tours and conferences using the front and rear cameras simultaneously. We just implemented AR functionality so that they can do virtual staging based on the potential buyers' style or corporate branding theme. We can also use LiDAR for automatic floor plan updates and measurements. The experience for industry improves with better iPad Pro hardware.

I notice this oversight too with almost all tech reviewers. Also I expected them to give more credit to the value of the iPad Air. I really see it as a better product than the previous gen iPad Pro 11" (which doesn't support the new Pencil Pro).

I’m a physicist and I can say that permanent electromagnets make no sense. A magnet is either permanent or not. If you can turn magnets on and off, it’s an electromagnet.

Yeah, side-note…have you seen MagSwitches? Very clever Neodymium Magnets…always magnets but they alter the alignment and use opposing magnetic forces to essentially create an equilibrium (sort of) but it’s down to their ability to ensure it’s highly aligned. Obviously I’m simplifying it because, nobody wants to read a full explanation. HOWEVER…I wrote this comment to THEM, but what do you think? -> What about every microphone or speaker in the room? You know how microphones and speakers work I presume? Am I confused? I don’t think so but I’m open to being explained why I’m wrong, if I am of course. I don’t see what else those magnets would be. The magnets as, they are obviously electromagnets which reverse direction of the drivers of the speakers for example by alternating the current at different Amplitudes and at various frequencies. The reverse is essentially the case for Microphones. @unstoppableevan2699 What do you think?

I wonder if the battery size shrunk on the new iPad Pros. If so, M4 is about efficiency to make the product thinner. Limiting an iPad’s hours also creates more separation from MacBooks.

Andrew is right on Final Cut camera. It’s giving a lot of people a chance to put together a multi camera angle video quickly without much effort. In most settings, a household, dorm, small company etc there will be enough iPhones or iPads to make use of this

I'm from Argentina and I ALSO got it in San Francisco. My job paid me to be in San Francisco fot 10 days and tried getting it from everywhere. I was at Gamespot and told me it was impossible to get stock... then I went to the Target of Mission St and I told the guy at the game section "you don't have the Switch... right? 😢" and told me "Yes! We do!" and only had 2. As soon as I got mine, the following customer got the other one. I was SO happy.

One thing nobody is talking about because it is super niche is the fact that some smaller countries don't have official google store. I have been saving up to buy pixel 8a and I would very much like to instead buy pixel 8. However, there are no price cuts and sales here. Maybe 2 years later pixel 8 and pixel 8a will drop to similar price but right now they cost the same as their launching price.

And it has 2 ways to only show local things. 1) it has a master list of chain restaurants and doesnt display those. 2) it checks a like 100 mile radius to see if any restaurants with the same name exist outside that 100 mile radius and doesnt display those (i choose 100 miles because id still be down to go to a regional chain with a handful of locations) This would help when you go to like. NYC and it shows you applebees or something. No shade against applebees, but like... I can get that anywhere.

Love the show, but saying Nintendo games would be better to play at 30fps was a big miss! High framerate is paramount for the best experience and always preferred. Also the rumor is the screen on the new console will be LCD unfortunately.

@@MHPersonalyeah, a lot of the specs of the Switch 2 are mostly confirmed. They said about Nintendo games being 30fps, but honestly a lot of first party Nintendo games are actually 60fps. Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros, Mario Odyssey, Splatoon, Mario Wonder, Metroid Dread/Prime Remaster, etc.

I remember the run up to the release of the switch. I was working at Gamestop and that was all everyone was talking about. Listening to the TV in the store go on all day about what accessories and games to buy and how it was an evolution of the DS. Everyone working at my store wanted one. And the day it was released I remember getting a call from my manager before open, and I was 100% sure he was going to ask me to come in early but he was actually calling to see if I planned on buying one so he could set it aside for me. I swear it was the best feeling ever walking into the backroom and seeing every one of my coworkers playing there's and them just handing me mine. Those are the memories that make me miss my time at Gamestop...not much else though lol

I CANNOT tell you how much I adored the iPod nanos. I owned the 6th and 7th generation and I only switched the 7th because my 6th got stolen and my 7th stopped charging after a couple years. They were brilliant and the 7th even had Bluetooth! I still have it so maybe one of these days I'll get it repaired for some nostalgia.

Regarding why some product get certain upgraded components like the M4 it could be regarding to the manufactoring and that the lines that produce the new Ipad gets retooled from like the oldest toolset and it will cost more to do it on a line of Ipad that is still selling good and is quite new. To retool a Mac line would be more expensive also

I think one use case for the multi-cam streaming thing is considering a lot of youth in the states use iPhones, now some groups just need the iPad with the app to setup a video podcast or whatever. The schoolboard I work for has an agreement with apple and we have a lot of apple products and I’m seeing our board and local boards also starting up podcasts for their respective schools
